Rockstar Games co-founder and lead writer of many titles including Bully, Dan Houser, has revealed why we never got a sequel. For years, fans have wanted Bully 2 and Rockstar were even working on it according to various rumours and leaks. However, we all know GTA 6 has taken up the better part of the past decade. Now we have some information on why Bully 2 never came to fruition.
Speaking in his first ever on-camera interview, Dan Houser mentioned cult classic “Bully” a few times within the LA Comic Con event late on Saturday. Of course, most people wanted to know more about GTA 6 and we shared what he had to say here. However, what he said about Bully was far more interesting.
When asked about games he has worked on, Dan mentioned Red Dead 2 was his best game. Despite that, he singled out the first Red Dead Redemption, GTA III and Bully as career highlights. The reason being is that they were all brand new IP.
“Doing that for the first time, assembling something strong is a gratifying experience…”

Interviewer Ryan McCaffrey took the mention of Bully as a cue for elaboration. He asked the writer straight up “why did we never get a sequel to Bully?”
Dan put it quite simply: “I think it was just bandwidth issues. If you’ve got a small lead, creative team and a small senior leadership crew you just can’t do all the projects you want.”
As we know Rockstar spent several years on GTA V and then around 8 on Red Dead Redemption 2. Since then, they’ve been all hands on deck working on GTA 6 aside from GTA Online updates. So there you have it, Dan along with other lead writers such as Michael Unsworth were just unable to do a large game like GTA or Red Dead plus another title.
In previous Bully news, the game’s mobile version was added to GTA+. Learn more here.
