Earlier today, Rockstar Games revealed on their newswire that Red Dead Redemption II will be receiving its own companion app, similar to the iFruit app which launched alongside Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. The app is scheduled to launch coinciding with the game’s global release on Friday, October 26, for iOS and Android devices. The companion app will allow players to view real-time interactive information on their smart device while playing the game. As of last night, Rockstar Games has lifted its social media ban for employees. Previously, the company had discouraged employees from discussing work experiences online. New York Magazine’s Harold Goldberg had the opportunity to view Red Dead Redemption II promotional material and gameplay at Rockstar Games’ New York offices on several occasions. During a couple of these meetings, Goldberg had the opportunity to interview one of the company’s founders and key writers, Dan Houser. Leslie Benzies, the former president of Rockstar North responsible for the Grand Theft Auto series, filed a lawsuit back in 2016 against Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive over allegedly unpaid royalties amounting to $150 million USD. The emails submitted as evidence of a royalties agreement were noted as being “interesting” in nature, with Benzies and the Houser brothers proclaiming their “love” for one another. Recently, we reported that thousands of players on PC have been banned in Grand Theft Online for no obvious reason after tunables were updated (and the SuperSeries update released) in order to fix an exploit, which most likely resulted in a failure of the anti-cheat systems.
