GTA 6 has begun to be age rated around. These classifications come with detailed descriptions about game mechanics and content we previously did not know about. Of course, the game is rated 18+ (or local equivalent) in all regions but how it gets the rating is different from previous games.
In the PEGI (European/UK rating), Grand Theft Auto VI is given a marker for violence, sex, drugs and in-game purchases. Lets take a look at why it got given all of those content advisories as there are some new things we did not know about revealed in PEGI’s report:
- Cocaine can be carried around by the player and snorted directly from their hand at any time
- Strong sexual themes in the form of nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes.
- In various night clubs the player can also pay for private dances, during which, the game allows the player to move their hands onto the dancers’ breasts and buttocks.
- Domestic animals are present in the environment, these can be harmed by the player, however this does not produce the same injury detail that can be generated towards human characters.
- The game features frequent strong bad language such as the word ‘fuck’ and occasional use of the word ‘cunt’.
- Discriminatory language can be heard in the tv shows and on the radio channels.
- This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items. (Note: this likely means the Ultimate Edition upgrade)
UPDATE – 8pm BST: PEGI have removed the age rating page.
Also, if it wasn’t obvious already from the recent Extended Look gameplay video, the game contains frequent depictions of violence; due to the free roam nature of the game features violence which “is bloody with a high degree of realism, with certain weapons being able to cause greater damage such as detailed decapitation and dismemberment.
