GTA 6 trailer 2 seems like a sure-fire expectation in 2024 but what else from Rockstar Games? We’ll be taking a look at what I believe we can expect to see from the company in the upcoming year.
Looking back at last year’s predications and surprises
Firstly, let’s recap last year’s predictions. At the end of 2022, I wrote about what we can expect from Rockstar Games in 2023. Many of those things came to fruition. The main thing was a proper reveal of GTA VI with its logo and trailer. We did indeed get that and more in December 2023.
The biggest surprise of 2023 for many would have been the re-release of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It did get leaked in 2023 and launched shortly after. Even though Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 sold well this year, content was limited.
GTA Online DLC
As for GTA Online, it was expected a few sizeable updates would drop during the usual months. We did speculate that unearthed music content could come to the game in 2023. However, that specific content is still yet to be seen in an update. It is possible that has been shelved or is coming in 2024.
Given how long it is been though the hope of seeing it is slipping. Reliable leaker Tez2 who shared the music creation content leak also said an appearance of Michael De Santa in GTA Online’s story could also happen. This has been a huge request by the community, more so in the last year I’d say. Whilst Michael did not come to GTA Online, another beloved character did. Yusuf Amir of GTA VI The Ballard of Gay Tony fame was a part of The Chop Shop update.
More in-game events for the community were also expected and those did happen more so towards the end of this year. They did take a step up in engagement once again in 2023 and we’d like to see this trajectory continue.
More GTA Trilogy releases
We also expected the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to release on Steam and the Epic Games Store which it did back in January and February this year. Its release on mobile platforms was another thing we speculated about. It did happen at the end of 2023 and even was part of people’s Netflix subscriptions in an unexpected twist.
GTA San Andreas VR
As a fan of VR gaming, I had really hoped the virtual reality version of GTA San Andreas would be mentioned again at a Meta showcase in 2023. It simply did not happen. Plenty of potential customers assume the project is dead given both Rockstar’s and Meta’s silence on it. The only acknowledgement of from Meta this year was “We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas.”
May Payne Remake
Based on Remedy’s published development schedule for all their games, it was expected that the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake would keep progressing. As of October 2023, it entered the production readiness stage.
What 2024 might look like
GTA VI trailer 2 and release date
Based on analysis of Rockstar’s previous big game release patterns, we could see the second GTA VI trailer release around October/November 2024. We went in-depth taking a look at the past 15 years or so of marketing by Rockstar to see what they do. A release date or rather a release month should also be revealed with trailer 2.
It’s also worth noting a Newswire article from Rockstar sharing some new screenshots could come in about 6 months. This is something Rockstar has done before a second trailer for titles like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2. As for anything else, we’d not expect anything on GTA VI from Rockstar.
GTA Online updates and FiveM
Once again, a decent summer and winter update for GTA Online can be assumed by all players. Same goes for a Halloween event as well. Despite some fans thinking GTA Online will simply seize to get updates now GTA VI has been announced, that won’t be the case. GTA Online continues to make a lot of money and updates bring players back. GTA VI is potentially 2 years away from release and not releasing GTAO content would hurt their bottom line.
Now that Rockstar Games own the team behind FiveM, a lot of GTA Online fans would love to see improvements made in the unofficial GTA Online come to the real game on console. How FiveM and the team’s expertise will be used remains to be seen.
GTA+ and classic mobile game offerings
GTA+ has continued to grow in various ways in 2023. From an increase in subscribers to the vast amount of perks on offer, this service could see more in 2024. The Vinewood Car Club, 100 car garage, Taxi bonuses and classic games all joined GTA+ in 2023. I think it’s likely more benefits will be added to GTA+ in 2024. We should also be seeing a new selection of classic games such as Bully rotated in for the GTA Trilogy or Liberty City Stories/Chinatown Wars.
Red Dead Redemption
Event months for Red Dead Online will continue but there won’t be any major content updates despite the continued success of the game. It might have released over 5 years ago but the game continues to sell well. Rockstar is mostly all hands on deck for GTA VI now.
Max Payne Remakes
Based on what information Remedy has shared with us, we can get an idea of what to learn about the Max Payne remakes in 2024. The current stage it is in will take another month or so. After that, the game will enter full-on production. This can take a year or two. Due to this upcoming stage taking longer than previous stages that happened in 2023, details might be light for a while.
GTA San Andreas VR
I’m just putting this here because myself and others want the game still to come out. Any sign of life would be appreciated Meta and Rockstar! So would just saying the game has been cancelled. Honesty and transparency goes a long way. Each time Meta hold a live stream showcase, the live chat is spamming GTA SA. There is a lot of desire for it.
2023 has been an incredible year for Rockstar Games fans and 2024 is shaping up to be a good one too. There’s a lot of momentum behind the studio right now and we look forward to seeing what they have in store for us in the next 12 months.
