Rockstar Games had some fun on their official Twitter (currently known as X) account this week. They responded to the actor of a fan favourite character plus a Tweet about the GTA VI trailer.
Earlier in December, the game studio launched the latest GTA Online update titled The Chop Shop. One of update’s main features are new story missions for GTA Online players. The plot brought back Yusuf Amir.
Mr Amir was a beloved character from GTA VI’s The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion. He was also played by comedian Omid Djalili. When The Chop Shop was revealed along with Yusuf’s return, many fans took to social media hoping Omid would be reprising his role.
When the content update released on December 12th, GTA fans were pleasantly relieved to hear Djalili’s voice work as Yusuf Amir once again. The comic posted a video on Twitter saying “I love you guys” to GTA fans.
Many GTA fans have been sharing love for Omid’s portrayal since the release of The Chop Shop. A lot of players have also been saying how the story and Yusef are the better parts of this update.
Omid jokes with Rockstar
Later on, the comedian quote-tweeted The Chop Shop trailer with “@RockstarGames have 19M followers and did not include my handle as I told them they would risk losing millions of followers if they did. Resolution for 2024: make it more clear when I’m joking”.
To many fans’ surprise (and amusement), Rockstar Games simply responded to the joke with “🤷♂️”. This reply is out of character for Rockstar Games’ social media accounts. Typically they have a very formal way of communicating.
A change in tone
However, they’ve let some of that go as of late giving us more humane posts. When the GTA VI trailer leaked, they said “Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube”.
Basketball legend LeBron James tweeted “GTA6 looks INSANE!!!! SHEESH 🔥” and Rockstar quoted it with 🙏👑. A similar message was also given to YouTuber Mr Beast.
When the CEO of Twitter (currently known as X) requested Rockstar to post the full GTA VI trailer on the platform, the studio mocked with “Hello @X , watch Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1”.
On December 21st, Rockstar Games responded with another singular emoji to the Tribeca film festival account. They wished the game studio a happy anniversary.
