The logo for Rockstar Games’ 2004 western Red Dead Revolver has been found in the new Dead Rising remaster. Whilst Red Dead Revolver is not as popular as Red Dead Redemption, it was still the beginning of the legendary series. There’s a history lesson to be had here for those that think this discovery does not make any sense. More on that below.
Capcom have just released Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster which they claim is a “complete graphical overhaul” of the 2006 zombie open-world game. Fans of the series have been taking a look at how the remaster has been made.
One Reddit user, Penguinazu, has now found the Red Dead Revolver on the front of a building in the remaster. According to the user, at specific angles it will show a Wild Call One Shot Decides texture over it as seen in the image below.
You will also notice the normal map behind the Wild Call One Shot texture is that of Red Dead Revolver’s logo. Looking at the sign face on hides the Wild Call One Shot Decides texture and only shows the Red Dead Revolver normal map
This specific building is out of bounds so not part of the playable area. A glitch was used to access this part of the map. The user says they had a look around these parts for hours and this was the only building with the Red Dead Revolver asset on it.
Why did this happen?
Now some people might be wondering, why did Capcom put a logo of a Rockstar Games title in their game? Basically, Red Dead Revolver was originally being developed by Angel Studios and published by Capcom. Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, acquired Angel Studios after a couple of years of major development issues with Red Dead Revolver.
Angel Studios were rebranded as Rockstar San Diego would would later go onto make Red Dead Redemption. Before that though Rockstar took a look at the studio’s various projects in the works. Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser liked the look of Red Dead Revolver enough that the project was worth keeping even though it was deemed “unplayable“.
Capcom chose to let Rockstar finish the game and get it out of the door and the rest is history. It’s possible leftover assets from Angel Studios were used in the original Dead Rising game from 2006. This one asset has flew under Capcom’s radar during the remaster process. Given this has now been revealed, we could expect a patch to remove it from the game. Rockstar does own Red Dead Revolver after all.
