Rockstar Games have announced they have been forced to cease sale of their games on their platform in Brazil. This follows legislation from the country’s government coming into effect.
First spotted by community member Tex2 on Twitter, Rockstar Games have published an article on their support site explaining the situation. Titled Latest information on the Digital ECA for Brazilian players, Rockstar say all sales from both the Rockstar Games Store or Rockstar Games Launcher will stop from March 16th 2026.
Following the passing of the Brazilian Digital Statute of the Child and Adolescent (“Digital ECA”), Rockstar Games digital titles are no longer purchasable from the Rockstar Games Store or Rockstar Games Launcher by our Brazilian players as of March 16, 2026.
Situation Details

Some fans worried this may mean all Rockstar Games are unobtainable legally in the region. That is not the case. Rockstar Games’ titles will remain available for purchase digitally on storefronts such as the PlayStation Store, Xbox/Microsoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It just can’t be offered by Rockstar themselves.
Another question players have had is what happens to games you bought via the Rockstar Games Launcher in the past. Rockstar say these are unaffected and can be played like normal. Meanwhile Shark Cards and Gold Bars will remain purchasable through the Rockstar Games Store/Launcher.
This law, Digital ECA, aims to protect children online. Children’s data will be banned from being used in ways that violate their privacy. Plus, ban ad profiling of children. Human Rights Watch found examples where such data trained AI tools and deepfakes. On top of that, games with loot boxes will be given age restriction measures making them accessible only to over 18s.
