Rockstar Games co-founder’s studio have announced their first projects. The studio titled Absurd Ventures is the latest endeavour by Rockstar co-founder and storied writer Dan Houser.
We reported earlier this week that Absurd Ventures have hired key Rockstar Games veterans as they start up. Alongside Mr Houser, Lazlow Jones, wildly know for his work on the Grand Theft Auto in-game radio stations, was a founding member.
Michael Unsworth, the Vice President of Writing at Rockstar left the company after 19 years to join Absurd. He currently servers as Head of Story & Creative Management. Adam Tedman also had 19 years at Rockstar and has since joined Absurd as Head of Marketing.
Included in our article were two trademarks GTA Forums member deadasdisco spotted owned by Absurd Ventures. Both AMERICAN CAPER and A BETTER PARADISE were filed at the end of July this year.
A few weeks ago, Absurd Ventures COO told Variety “We will have more announcements in the weeks ahead about projects that we’re already in pre-production and production on those IP universes.” And they announced them on Wednesday.
The first of many projects
In a post on X/Twitter, Absurd said “AMERICAN CAPER and A BETTER PARADISE. First stories coming in 2024” along with a logo for each. There is also a link to webpages dedicated to each of these new IPs.
AMERICAN CAPER
According to a follow up, AMERICAN CAPER is a new graphic novel. It will be illustrated by comic book artist Simon Bisley. The British artist is best known for his work on 2000AD comics. This new IP “centers on two normal, badly-damaged American families in a world of corrupt business, inept politics and bungling crime”. The website says “First story coming 2024.”
A BETTER PARADISE
The next IP is called A BETTER PARADISE. This will be a 12-part audio fiction series. It is set to be a “existential suspense thriller” and it will be co-produced by QCODE media. The website says “First story coming 2024.”
New information on both of these new IPs will be shared “in the months ahead” according to a post by Absurd Ventures.
