Just a few weeks after Red Dead Redemption was leaked by Rockstar Games to finally be coming to PC, Epic Games have also appear to have shared information on the upcoming port.
Last month, we reported on how Rockstar Games uploaded text that said “Red Dead Redemption now playable on PC” to the Rockstar Games Launcher. After many fans had given up on Rockstar ever releasing a PC port of their western classic, it became apparent they will be at some point.
Whilst Rockstar Games are of course the best place to get any info, there’s nothing quite like another drop of information coming from another solid location.
The next major video game leak has occurred
A brand new website that accesses the backend database of the Epic Games Store has just leaked tons of unannounced games and known upcoming titles that are in the EGS backend. Known as EpicDB, it is a similar site to SteamDB. SteamDB is an excellent site; it allows us to view data on games such as when new patches are being submitted, live player counts and more.

Now, someone has launched a similar service but for the Epic Games Store. In doing so, it has revealed many games and codenames which we did not know existed. The site has since been pulled offline at the time of writing, possibly due to the surge in traffic or the fact it is leaking unannounced games and content. Before it was taken down, people spotted there was an entry for a Rockstar Games title.
[UPDATE]: Epic Games have shared a statement via an agency with us saying “We released an update tonight so third-party tools can’t surface any new unpublished product titles from the Epic Games Store catalog.”
Red Dead Redemption download size and codename revealed?
The codename is Semla (a sweet Swedish bun) and it features a download size of 9.17GB and total file size of 10.30GB. Some Rockstar fans thought this might be the Max Payne 1&2 Remake. However, Remedy are developing that and given it is a true next-gen remake, it would likely be larger in size. Also, this file size is very close to the PS4/PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption as noted by rollschuh2282 on the GTA Forums. Below is an image of the EpicDB listing, provided by rollschuh.

This could indicate that the upcoming release of Red Dead Redemption will basically be the PS5 version we got last August. This is not entirely unexpected but some fans would have liked to have seen a larger file size in hope of bonus PC goodies like higher resolution textures.
Still, the fact that we are getting Red Dead Redemption 1 on PC is still a good thing. High frame rates (hopefully) and the community will create mods for it are all great reasons for this to exist.
The database entry for Semla (Red Dead Redemption) was created on February 1st at 11:16PM UK time. The The last update made to this database entry was a day later, on February 2nd at 1:34AM UK time. Below is an image of that info via @videotechuk_.

Steam and Epic day one launch?
Given that this leak has occurred from the Epic Games Store, does this mean when the PC version of Red Dead Redemption launches, will it come to Steam and Epic on day one, not just the Rockstar Games Launcher? It is possible but the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition took over year to release on Steam and the Epic Games store following exclusivity to Rockstar’s own platform.
They can have it in a database and choose not to release it. EpicDB also shows titles like codename Rhodelsland which is believed to be Spider-Man Miles Morales. It has not been updated since September 22nd 2021. Some titles can just be waiting in the wings. If Rockstar do launch this port on their own platform, it could be a year before we see it arrive on Steam or the Epic Game Store.

When will it be announced or release?
Based on the text string wording from Rockstar, many of us fans thought this version of Red Dead would launch imminently. It has been a month since Rockstar leaked it and they have remained silent.
Insider Tez2 who found the text for Red Dead 1 on PC recently explained that he believes it was a premature piece of text and that it might be further out than say releasing within the next few days or weeks. You can read all about Tez’s explanation here.

I really don’t want to see too many rdr 2 mods for this game. It should be appreciated in its own right and it honestly annoys me how many people want the events of the 2nd to be cannon in the first game despite how terrible it is :-/ it lacks so much character and depth compared to the original…
I`m agreed with all my heart.
