Red Dead Redemption on PC has once again been leaked but this time by PlayStation. Following in the footsteps of Rockstar Games and Epic Games, we have yet another acknowledgement of the new port. Not only that, but details on some of the PC features despite it coming from PlayStation’s own store.
This was first spotted by Reddit user R4veZer0. They say after completing Red Dead Redemption 2, they decided to see how much the PS5 port of Red Dead Redemption was. When browsing the Red Dead Redemption PlayStation Store listing they noticed text references to the PC version.
The PlayStation Store listing for the game has a “Game and Legal Info” section and features a paragraph referencing the PC version. The full paragraph is below:
Featuring the complete single-player experiences of both games, including bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition, Red Dead Redemption features all of the 2023 console version upgrades plus PC specific enhancements including support for increased resolutions and framerates, multiple displays, and other accessories, plus spatial surround sound.
This piece of text reveals the PC version of Red Dead Redemption will include some new improvements. There will be options for newer, larger, resolutions plus higher framerates. It also has support for multiple displays, accessories and spatial surround sound.
Now, at first glance, this might read like the PS5 version will get some of these PC upgrades. However, the PS5 does not support the ability to use multiple displays. Instead, it is likely a paragraph from a PC listing. It reads “Red Dead Redemption features all of the 2023 console version upgrades plus PC. Perhaps someone at Rockstar Games or PlayStation pasted this into the PlayStation Store listing by accident?
At the time of publishing this article, the PC version text has been live on the PlayStation Store for several hours and has not been removed. Given this has come ahead of an official announcement by Rockstar Games, we can assume it will be removed in due course.
UPDATE at 1:41pm BST: The text has now been removed and reverted back to how it was before.
I decided to see what the previous iteration of the text read. Using the Wayback Machine, we can see that the wording was previously just “Featuring the complete single-player experiences of both games, Red Dead Redemption also includes bonus content from the Game of the Year Edition and more.*” Now it has been changed to have all of the extra PC info.
The Red Dead Redemption PC leaks so far
In case you need a catch up on the Red Dead Redemption PC port leaks, we’ll round everything up below.
It all started in May when reputable Rockstar Games insider Tez2 posted on Twitter (currently known as X) a screenshot of text found in an update made to the Rockstar Games Launcher with references to the game on PC. Rockstar had jumped their own gun quite early. Below are the text strings:
“RDR_ProductPromotion_Intro_Body”: “Journey across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico in Red Dead Redemption, and its zombie-horror companion, Undead Nightmare — now playable on PC.”, “RDR_ProductPromotion_Intro_LongTitle”: “Experience the epic Western adventures that defined a generation.”,
Tez later clarified he does not expect an imminent release (in May/June) as this was an “unintended”, “too early” push of an update. It was a developer build rather than a public one.
Then in June, someone was able to access the Epic Games Store database. The Red Dead Redemption PC version was listed under a code name and with a download size. Codenamed, Semla (a sweet Swedish bun) it had a download size of 9.17GB and total file size of 10.30GB. This file size is close to the PS4/PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption.
Up until now, it has been all quiet on the Red Dead Redemption PC front. Many speculated it could release in August, a year after the game came to PS4/PS5 and the Nintendo Switch. This was a fair guess and with PlayStation’s leak today, it may still happen. However, that is pure speculation. As and when Red Dead Redemption for PC gets officially announced, we’ll be covering it right here at RockstarINTEL.
Other recent Red Dead news
As Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to be one of the best selling games every month, it is no surprise to see the game and series pass another milestone. Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, announced on Thursday the series has now past 91 million copies sold. The sequel accounts for 65 million of them. Once the PC version comes out, we can imagine it will close up to 100 million worldwide.
Also, a new book about Red Dead’s history released this month. It has been written by Professor Tore C. Olsson, who is known for using the story from Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 as a way to teach his students at the University Of Tennessee about American History. The audiobook is narrated by Roger Clark who plays Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. Learn more details here.
