Red Dead Redemption’s success on mobile has continued past launch. New data published today has revealed just how many people have downloaded the game and even purchased the full-priced version that does not require a Netflix subscription.
Rockstar’s classic from 2010 was re-released on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile devices at the start of December to much praise for a solid port. Now we can see how that has translated into what businesses care about most: money.
According to Sensor Tower via The Game Business, Red Dead Redemption has been downloaded over 10 million times on mobile since launch. Almost all of that number is from the Netflix-supported version which is to be expected given the far lower barrier to entry and how the GTA Trilogy versions did. Sensor Tower claim the game’s $39.99 version has made over half a million dollars which means less than 20,000 copies have been sold.
Netflix’s Co-CEO Gregory Peters spoke on Red Dead Redemption’s success in a recent earnings call with investors. Peters said “We’ve seen some really positive results with games like Red Dead Redemption“. It is stated to have the “same kind of performance” as the GTA Trilogy titles. Even though the GTA games did incredibly well, especially GTA San Andreas, all three are no longer part of the subscription service. This leaves Red Dead Redemption having the spotlight to itself.

We previously reported on how the game topped the overall Apple App Store charts in many countries such as the USA within its first 24 hours of release. It also had earned a few hundred thousand downloads on Android alone in that same time frame. With the new data that’s come in two months on, it is clear Netflix has another licensed hit on their hands.
Take-Two reported last week that the Red Dead franchise has now sold over 110 million copies as of this month. This was up three million in the previous quarter. Given the specific sales count of Red Dead Redemption 2 has gone up around three million in that time frame, we now know the first game’s re-release on mobile and consoles has sold less than a million since December.
Since launch, a couple of updates have been made to the mobile versions of Red Dead Redemption. These have ironed out some performance issues on select devices and overall polished the experience.
