New video game reports show GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 are continuing to do very well much like the rest of the year so far. The player count and downloads of the games for May has been reported by official sources such as PlayStation. Let’s take a look at how well Rockstar Games’ titles are doing so far in GTA 6’s release year.
Player Count
Let’s take a look at how many people played GTA V/GTA Online in April. According to Ampere Analysis via The Game Business, the game saw 14.2 million players across Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. This does not include the Rockstar Games launcher or Epic Games Store players. This a 1.35m reduction in players from March.
It was still the 3rd most played game in terms of monthly active users only bested by Fortnite with 24.8m and Counter Strike 2 which had 20.4m. Both games were also down lots of players.
PlayStation Charts

PlayStation have published their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P game downloads for May. Let’s start by taking a look at where GTA V placed in these charts.
The game was the 3rd most downloaded PS5 game in Europe last month; the same place as it was in April. It was only beaten by LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and 007 First Light which were two brand new and critically acclaimed releases. In the USA/Canada chart it moved up from 7th to 5th. Taking a look at the PS4 version, it has gone from 9th in Europe to 10th. In North America, it is in 12th for the second month in a row.
After almost a year on top, Red Dead Redemption 2 is no longer the most downloaded PS4 title in the USA and Canada. It has been the most downloaded game every month since last summer on PS4 but Star Wars Battlefront II has seen another huge resurgence much like last year when it replaced RDR2 at the top. However, Red Dead 2 still remains first in Europe with Star Wars Battlefront 2 close behind.
