Red Dead Redemption 2 just hit a new peak player count as the game continue to sell well. Despite releasing over 5 years ago, Rockstar’s western masterpiece has seen another resurgence in terms of the amount of players playing at the same time. And this is only counting Steam players, no consoles or other PC versions.
Following a discount on Black Friday in 2022, the game hit a then record of 66,492 players on Steam at the same time. This actually continued to grow through the new year. We reported in the early days of January 2023 it surpassed 69,000 concurrent. By the end of the month, it peaked at just under 71,000. The game sustained around this player count until March. From then on until September, it remained stable.
Still no limit
As the fifth anniversary came around the game steadily grew. Then on Sunday, the game rocketed to 77,655 concurrent players, a new all-time peak. This beat the new record of 73,138 set a day prior.
An interesting graph to look at is just how this rise of player count has been recently. The game was discounted to its usual discounted price during Steam’s Autumn sale. It seems like no matter the age, new players are discovering this incredible game.
Recent reports
Red Dead Redemption 2 did well in October on PlayStation. For the US and Canada chart, it took the crown as the most downloaded PS4 game of the month. This comes after two consecutive months in fourth position. Meanwhile across the pond it charted in 3rd place for a second month running. Red Dead 2 can only be counted in the PS4 chart as there is only a PS4 version. Downloads to PS5 consoles are included in this.
Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 was the 9th best selling game when all disc and digital sales were combined in all of Europe last month.
Unfortunately it still seems extremely unlikely the game will ever receive more content from Rockstar despite a consistent growth in players over the last couple of months. GTA 6 is well into development and GTA Online is also doing extremely well. It is tough knowing there won’t be a next-gen update or version for this already beautiful game.
