Never-before-seen Red Dead Redemption 2 concept art has been revealed as part of a museum exhibit by Rockstar Games. It is extremely rare we see artwork like this from the company due to their immense secrecy. They even filmed a making of GTA V documentary which was scrapped so this artwork reveal is quite a big moment for fans of Rockstar Games and their western masterpiece.
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Rockstar North has been the company’s main office for game development since the beginning. To celebrate games in Scotland, the studio has loaned various pieces of rare merchandise and items to a new exhibition.
Most of these items we’ve seen before and some community members even own them but the most interesting thing is the new Red Dead Redemption 2 artwork.
As first reported by VGC, Game On will be present at the National Museum of Scotland from June 29th through November 3rd this year. Given how monumental Rockstar Games have been to video games and culture for 25 years, it is no surprise they have their very own segment in the Game On exhibit.
Incredible concepts we’ve never seen before
Photos of the Red Dead Redemption 2 section of the exhibit can be found below. We can see four pieces of concept art from the game. The top left image shows a walk with a horse above a river whilst the top right shows the gang around a campfire.
We also get concept art of the whole gang which is fantastic to see. The bottom piece of art appears to show the moment Arthur, Lenny, Javier jump onto the train in Chapter 1.
Whilst these pieces are fairly close to what the final game looks like, it is still appreciated given how rare we get art like this.

The other items part of the Red Dead Redemption 2 section from the Collector’s Box fans could pre-order ahead of the game’s launch. It was later re-released in 2021. Whilst not super rare these do now fetch a fair bit on sites like eBay.
GTA items on display
As for Rockstar’s other blockbuster franchise, there are plenty of GTA items loaned by the company for the public to take a look at. Starting with GTA III, there is a Claude Sideshow statue and 10th anniversary baseball bat. There’s a Vice City Rubik’s Cube and a San Andreas skateboard.
The miniature Statue of Happiness from GTA VI will also be there alongside the Key to the City. Several of the Kubrick figures spanning GTA III through V are also present.
Plus, fans can see a full timeline of Rockstar’s release history and the titles like GTA 1 and 2 which were made before Rockstar was founded. According to VGC, it ends at the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition and not GTA 6 though. Above the timeline are various maps from the Grand Theft Auto series such as GTA V’s.
VGC also shared a statement from Rockstar’s Head of Publishing Jennifer Kolbe. She said “Scotland has played an instrumental part in the evolution of video games as a medium. We’re excited to help the National Museum of Scotland reveal more about the nation’s contributions to this thriving aspect of modern culture.” The creator of GTA received a life time achievement award at last year’s Scottish Game Week Awards.
If you’d like to visit the museum, tickets are now on sale for this exhibition here. Are you taking a trip to Edinburgh for this? Be sure to let us know down in the comments section below!
As much as fans love Rockstar’s secret nature, it is a shame we don’t learn more about their work behind the scenes. Any peak behind the curtain such as the pieces of art above is a big deal.
This week, Rockstar Games launched the latest GTA Online DLC titled Bottom Dollar Bounties. They even included a fun Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter egg which we covered here.
