Red Dead Redemption 2 should be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. That’s according to an ever-reliable insider.
Nintendo put out a new Direct showcasing lots of new titles from third party studios on Thursday. Before it aired, some fans speculated if the long-rumoured Red Dead Redemption 2 port would be announced during it. This February’s Nintendo Direct did feature some blockbuster and hardware demanding titles such as Indiana Jones and The Great Circle but Rockstar was not present.
It has been said by myself and many others, don’t expect Rockstar to appear at a Nintendo Direct. The Japanese company needs Rockstar more than Rockstar needs them. Red Dead Redemption 2 on the new system would be a huge get. Rockstar rarely make any appearances at partner shows outside of the odd PlayStation State of Play (Rockstar has a very close relationship with Sony).
In a Tweet following the Direct, well-known and credible game leaker NateTheHate responded to a fan asking if Red Dead Redemption 2 was still coming to the hybrid console. Nate states that as far as he knows, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still coming this year.

At the end of last year, when Rockstar unveiled yet another RDR1 re-release, Nate said “this doesn’t negate RDR2 happening.” Reece “KIWITALKZ” Reilly has previously shared he had spoken to 8 developers at Rockstar who had worked on the new Red Dead Redemption 2 version. His personal opinion on Nate’s latest update is one of doubt. He told Twitter that with GTA VI’s marketing beginning in summer, RDR2 would be drowned unless it is released somewhat soon.
Given NateTheHate’s track record and other insiders claiming similar things, a Switch 2 port of Red Dead 2 is seemingly still on the cards; likely before GTA 6 ships in November. Of course, anything can happen in video game development. GTA VI is still the priority after all. For more Red Dead Redemption news updates, stay tuned to RockstarINTEL.
