Despite reports on social media, Rockstar Games have not put GTA 6 on a billboard in Times Square this week. The wait for Trailer 3 continues as we be debunk the claims that began circulating across the internet late last night.
What Has Been Happening
Over the past few weeks, GTA 6 fans have been speculating a new trailer and pre-orders will be dropping very soon. This started without any real reason other than a “feeling”.
Rockstar have released trailers and started taking pre-orders in November for previous titles plus their parent company will release financial reports to investors next week. Since then, a lot of wacky conspiracy theories have been put out there. GTA/Rockstar conspiracy theories never come true.
A Strange Turn Of Events
Yesterday, Rockstar Games updated their website’s homepage. A slightly different design can now be seen. This further fueled hope amongst the community that something big is imminent. The latest “clue” something “big” is going to happen regarding GTA 6 is that Rockstar had apparently begun promoting GTA VI on billboards in Times Square.
As spotted by a Discord user known as KarimouDZ, who was watching a newly published YouTube video titled 0 | MANHUNT New York | Es beginnt, it is possible to see GTA 6 on a billboard in certain shots. The video is filmed in New York City and features plenty of footage in Times Square.
This was later posted to Twitter by various GTA 6 news accounts. With the video being published on Wednesday October 29th, many assumed the billboard was brand new and Rockstar were beginning GTA VI marketing for pre-orders and a new trailer.

Explaining What Happened
Unfortunately, I quickly noticed, when looking at the billboard 42 minutes and 46 seconds in the video that it was promoting Trailer 2 with the “Watch Trailer 2 Now” tagline and YouTube Gaming branding. This means it was an advertisement paid by YouTube, not Rockstar.
Furthermore, I decided to see if I could find any clues in other billboards or parts of the video to find out when it was filmed. Based on various clocks and dates you can see in the video, it was filmed the week commencing May 12th 2025. This was a week or so after Trailer 2 came out.
To be even more accurate, GTA YouTuber Gtamen found the advert appeared on the billboard during May 15th 2025. This is from a YouTube channel, Commercial Break, that chronicles the daily advert rotation of the main Times Square electronic billboard. Having looked through other days around May 15th, there are several ad spots by YouTube promoting other videos, not just GTA. You can see another angle of the billboard below.

So there you have it, case closed. This is not Rockstar paying for billboards in Times Square right now or even back then. Millions of people will have likely saw that billboard and yet no one posted about it online except for this video which got zero traction.
Fans on the r/GTA6 subreddit are calling this a “humble pie” moment for the GTA 6 community. Despite this game’s hype cycle consuming some people’s live, including to a disgraceful degree, most people in the world don’t care. A GTA 6 billboard, in one of the most visited places in the world, slipped through the cracks of the always watching GTA 6 fans. And in the end, it did not mean anything like a 3rd trailer. That’s how it goes sometimes.
