Red Dead Redemption 2 will still be re-released on PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S two reliable sources have claimed. Both of them previously reported Rockstar were developing a new version of the game for the current crop of consoles and now they’re doubling down.
The reason for the two for reiterating this is the fact that Rockstar announced the original Red Dead Redemption on Thursday for these consoles and more. It was a big surprise for fans to see the first game get re-released yet again on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and even mobile with a release date of December 2nd.
Credible gaming insider NateTheHate responded to a fan who criticised Nate over this re-release and suggesting he got it mixed up. He said on Twitter “This doesn’t negate RDR2 happening.”
The same fan tagged Reece “KIWITALKZ” Reilly who previously shared he had spoken to 8 developers at Rockstar who had worked on the new Red Dead Redemption 2 version. Reilly said in response to the fan that he does not have a specific release date. He went onto tell us that just because RDR1 got a re-release, it does not mean there is not one coming for the sequel and it “will come at some point.”

What Is Going On?
With Red Dead Redemption coming to new platforms, getting a whole new audience to check out the first game makes sense.
As of last week, Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 79 million copies worldwide. This is now the 4th best selling game of all time and soon it will be 3rd. In comparison, only 28 million copies of the first game have been sold.
This shows far more people have played Red Dead Redemption 2; more than twice the amount of people. Sprucing up the first game and putting it on all current platforms and even mobile opens the door for more people to check it out. Now GTA 6 has been delayed until this time next year, Rockstar have plenty of room to put out a new version of RDR2 before then.
