Note: Rockstar Intel will not distribute the mod in any way due to legal risks.
Modding group Revolution Team has released Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nextgen Edition, despite an earlier takedown on their YouTube channel.
The group, which had its original YouTube channel removed, has re-emerged with a new channel and made the mod publicly available. Initially, the project was designed to require players to own a copy of GTA IV, aiming to show respect for the developer. However, after what could be described as a ‘hostile takedown’, the team went ahead and released the mod without any restrictions.
“Friends, you’re probably already know that just two days before the release, Take-Two Interactive deleted our YouTube channel without any warning or attempt to contact us.” Something the team has described as a “cruel move” The team has remained committed to launching the mod anyways: “The most important thing now is that we released the project on the promised date. It’s unclear how long it will remain publicly available or whether there will be demands to take it down. We are not opposed to reuploads, but we cannot openly encourage you to do so. Do as you see fit.”

The mod is a almost 1:1 remake of GTA Vice City, except that it runs on the underlying GTA IV RAGE engine. This means improved visuals, physics, gunplay, NPC interactivity and more. What’s unique about this mod is that it brings over ALL of Vice City’s content over, this means missions, cutscenes, radio stations, and much more. You may begin to understand why Take-Two didn’t take too kindly with this mod.
If you want to know more, we reported on all of what it will have on offer such as original cars, music, collectibles, cheat codes and more.
@SynthPotato states it’s the definitive edition that we should have gotten:

Seeing GTAVC run in real-time on top of the GTA 4 engine with all its cars, NPCs and even missions included is what The Definitive Edition should have been. Modders truly are incredible.pic.twitter.com/U2QC0Ncw8R
This isn’t the first time Take-Two has targeted a fan mod. Earlier this month, the Liberty City Preservation Project was removed following a mutually friendly agreement between the creators and Rockstar Games.
