Remedy have provided fans with a small development update on the Max Payne Remake and offered an potential indication of a release year. This follows Remedy having a big shake up at the top of the pyramid. Tero Virtala resigned as Remedy’s CEO with immediate effect just a few days ago.
At the end of every quarter of the year, the game developer and publisher share financial reports covering the previous three months of business. This latest quarter, Q3 2025, covering July to September 2025 has ended and we now have info from that period.
These financial documents are released to inform investors about the company’s current projects and future. Remedy also give comments about where the in the development cycle their games are. Remedy have several games in various stages of development including the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake.
What Remedy Are Reporting Today
During this quarter, Remedy’s revenue decreased by 32% compared to the previous comparison period. The number was €12.2 million down from 17.9m. This was “driven by a lower level of
development fees” which amounted to €6.1 million.
Following the departure of Tero Virtala, Markus Mäki has become the interim CEO until a long-term successor has been found. Acting as CEO, Mäki has this to say on the Max Payne 1&2 remake:
“For the reporting period, the main sources of revenue were development fees
from Max Payne 1 & 2 remake and Control 2 as well as sales revenue from FBC:
Firebreak related subscription service agreements, Alan Wake 2 royalties and Control related game sales.(…) Majority of our effort goes into working with our established franchises – Control and Alan Wake (…) We’re focused on the Max Payne 1&2 remake with Rockstar Games.” – Remedy CEO Markus Mäki
During a webcast to investors, Mäki stated the remake is “tracking towards the milestone goals”.

They also listed all of their games currently in development along with their current state highlighting the Max Payne Remake being published by Rockstar.
| Game | Publisher | Stage-gate status |
| FBC: Firebreak | Remedy Entertainment | Post-launch development |
| Control 2 | Remedy Entertainment | Full production |
| New project | Remedy Entertainment | Proof of Concept |
| Max Payne 1&2 remake | Rockstar Games | Full production |
Release Indication?
For a second quarter report in a row, Remedy have not shared too much on the The Max Payne Remake. It continues to be worked on in full production as expected. As of September 2025, the game has been in full production for around 15+ months.
According to Remedy, this process takes around 200 employees and an estimated 1 to 2 years to get the game ready for 6 months of beta testing. You can see their process below; click on image to view in fullscreen:

The game is on the larger side with an Alan Wake 2-sized budget. This means it will probably take the full 2 years. If the game takes 2.5 years in full production and testing based on their stage gate process, we could be playing the remakes by the end of 2026.
Reading Between The Lines
In their report to investors today, Remedy say they have set 2 new goals. One of them is to double the 2024 revenue by 2027 with “with continued growth beyond this milestone”. The 2024 revenue was high for Remedy thanks to money earned from Alan Wake 2.
Given both the Max Payne 1&2 remake and Control 2 are in full production, many will assume they mean both of these titles will be the ones to double the 2024 revenue count. Control 2 only entered Full Production around 9 months ago so that is a 2027 title.
As we know Remedy are consistent and transparent, we’ll hear more about the Max Payne once their Q4 2025 has concluded. This will be around late January 2026; we’ll be covering that right here on RockstarINTEL.
