GTA Online’s player base and earnings split has been revealed in a new leak. This gives us an interesting insight into the game almost 13 years on from launch.
What’s Happening?
Last week, Rockstar were hacked by a group named ShinyHunters his threatened to publish financial documents if their ransom was not paid and that is exactly what has happened. ShinyHunters confirmed yesterday that their demands were not met by Rockstar Games. The teenage group of hackers requested $200,000 from the company to stop the leak. Based on what we know because the group did leak information, that amount of cash is extremely tiny for Rockstar.
The amount of data leaked by this group is actually far less than what they claimed. The teenagers posted online that they had stolen terabytes of data. In reality it was just a few gigabytes of documents. These documents range from how much GTA Online and Red Dead Online make through Shark Cards to customer support tickets.
There is some very interesting information that exposes how well the GTA Online is continuing to do as well as the granularity of it the player base. However, there is absolutely nothing to do with GTA 6 and gameplay footage despite what so many people were adamant would happen.
As spotted by GTA forums user Lexiture, we now know the player bases platforms split from Rockstar themselves, this can dispel a narrative among players that the PC playbase and GTA RP is what is keeping the game going.
GTA Online Broken Down By Platforms

A list of the amount of players and how much money is made per platform on average each week has been revealed. This is from the period of September 9th 2025 to March 24th 2026. Out of around 8.5 million players weekly, the evidence proves that PlayStation 5 is by far the largest amount of players weekly and in terms of earnings. It achieves around 3.5m players and $4.5m in cash. Behind that is PlayStation 4 with 1.9m players and nearly $1m in bookings.
In third place is Xbox Series X|S which for some people might find surprising. This should not be unexpected that given roughly around 80 million more Playstation 4 consoles have been sold. Of course, many of those have upgraded to PlayStation 5 now but there is still a significant install base on PS4. The twin consoles have 1.1m players weekly but brings in double the amount of money with $1.9m. That’s quite a jump and shows why there is still important to support that platform. Sames goes for Xbox One. Even though it only has 1 million weekly players, it earns almost as much as PS4 does.
But GTA On PC Is Huge, Right?
PC lags far behind consoles in the base game. Player spending is far, far lower than on console earning about $260,000 per week with 900k players. It just goes to show why rockstar chooses to focus on console. PC players do not turn up in in the same droves nor used their wallet. There is no PC version confirmed for GTA 6 yet and whilst we almost certainly will get one at some point, it is not a priority.
This figure does not involve FiveM though just the unmodified version of GTA Online which can have hundreds of thousands of concurrent players every day. GTA RP is huge among content creators and audiences (it was the second most watched game on live streams last year and has been this year still) but in terms of leading the charts with actual players and monetization, it does not come close to the base version of the game yet.
It’s also worth noting that it was reported earlier this year the game achieved over 20 million unique players in January alone. We might be entering the 13th year of GTA Online this year but the game just won’t stop.
In other related news from the leak, GTA+ subscriber counts have been revealed. Check it all out here.
