With the release of GTA V Enhanced, those that play GTA Online on PC can finally experience the Hao’s Special Works (HSW) upgrades. These state of the art modifications allow certain cars to reach new top speeds, faster than any of the other cars in GTA V.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers have been utilising the HSW for 3 years now so PC has missed out on a lot of time with them. If you are a PC player or new to GTA Online on current gen, we’ve got a handy guide on how to get a few free HSW upgrades.
Free HSW Upgrades 1 And 2
The first thing you can do to get free upgrades will get you 2 of them. You can get an upgrade for any HSW compatible car plus a fully upgraded car for free: the Karin S95. This is one of the fastest cars in the game. To get your first upgrade and S95 free of charge instead of the usual price of $1,995,000, you need to do a time trial.
To get started, visit Hao’s lockup located in Downtown Vinewood and get in his upgraded Grotti Turismo Classic. You can see the exact location on the in-game map in the screenshot below.

From there, you’ll be tasked to do a time trial by Hao in his car. Completing the time trial regardless if you beat his time, you’ll get 1 free upgrade to use on a HSW vehicle. If you beat his time, he’ll gift you the fully upgraded Karin S95 for free. The time to beat is 8 minutes and 10 seconds. If you do not beat it on your first attempt, don’t worry! You can keep repeating this until you beat the time and get the car.

Once you have been successful at beating Hao’s time, visit the Southern San Andreas Super Autos website in-game. From there, find the Karin S95 and you’ll notice it no longer costs $1,995,000 but is free.

Then you can visit the LS Car Meet and the HSW section. From there, if you have a car that can be upgraded with HSW parts, the performance upgrade will be marked as FREE. Depending on the car, these range in cost from $500k to $1,900,000.
Completing the initial time trial will also let you partake in the HSW Race Series and weekly rotating HSW Time Time Trial which can earn you $250,000.
Free HSW Upgrade 3
This next option requires another player to help you out. Both of you need to visit the LS Car Meet plus have the ability for other players to purchase copies of personal vehicles enabled. To see if this is active, open up the interaction menu, select LS Car Meet, then scroll down to HSW Specification Service. Make sure it is toggled on Yes.

After that, you need to purchase a car from a player in the LS Car Meet. This can be any car so a friend can opt to bring a very cheap car to the Car Meet for you to purchase. Once you purchase the car, you’ll get the HSW Upgrade voucher. So if you buy a very cheap car, you’ll get a voucher worth up to $1,900,000. Not bad!
