This month, Rockstar Games released a free, new PC version of GTA V called GTA V Enhanced. After 5 years of waiting, PC gamers finally got chance to experience improved graphics, new content, exclusive features and more.
Whilst the launch was fine in the sense that it did not have performance issues like many new PC releases, it did have various problems. Some small, some unplayable. We previously reported on the few main problems causing headaches for players. These ranged from text chat being disabled to GTA Online progress not being migrated.
Rockstar released 3 patches within a few days post launch to fix issues such as a frame-rate cap but issues such as the GTA Online character migration still remain. There are also audio issues due to the audio engine frame rate limit being 188FPS and some players are enjoying GTA VE above that. All of this has led to players on Steam leaving a lot of negative reviews.
Worst Rated GTA Ever
In fact, so many negative reviews have been left by users on the GTA V Enhanced version that it is now the worst rated Grand Theft Auto game on Steam. It sitting with a “Mixed” rating of 53.72% at the time of writing. It was the lowest Rockstar rated game briefly but some positive ratings have come in to bump it above L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.

So yeah, GTA V Enhanced is rated lower than the mess that was the GTA Trilogy Definitive Editions. For comparison, that controversial version of GTA San Andreas sits at a “Mostly Positive” 73.92% rating. The low review will bother Rockstar somewhat so hopefully a patch will iron out the issues shortly and then users may reconsider their review score.
Still A Success?
Despite the bad reviews, GTA V Enhanced quickly overtook the old GTA V Legacy version in concurrent players on Steam during launch day. It peaked at 187,059 concurrent players whereas the original version capped out at 133,569 for the day.
Issues have obviously deterred some users from making the switch over to Enhanced but 1 week on we’re still seeing GTA V Enhanced have a max of 145,000 people peak each day vs around 100,000 on GTA Legacy. The latter number is slowly dropping each day or so.
