We might get an indication when GTA 6 will release in Fall 2025 or beyond. This is based on the comments of Take Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick. Rockstar Games‘ parent company is Take-Two and they recently held their quarterly report and call for investors.
During the event, the company reconfirmed GTA VI will launch in Fall 2025 at the moment. They also said another one of their flagship titles, Borderlands 4, is still targeting between April 1st 2025 and March 31st 2026.
These are 2 very important games for the future of Take-Two. Launching Borderlands close to GTA VI (or any game for that matter) will likely be detrimental to how well a game sells. In an interview with Variety, Mr Zelnick said “I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily”.
If Take-Two announce a time frame for Borderlands 4 before a specific release date for GTA VI, it can help us learn where they are looking to place it. Whilst Borderlands 4 could release before Fall 2025, there’s a fair chance it moves into Fall 2025. If it ends up being close to GTA VI and Rockstar want a bit more time, it is possible we’ll see GTA 6 slip into late 2025 or even early 2026 as a last resort. Rockstar are “targeting perfection” when it comes to GTA VI and it’s launch.
GTA VI obviously is the top priority but as a company, they don’t want to cannibalise their other original IP. The Borderlands film was a major flop at the box office but Zelnick was quick to note in the call with investors the film coming out led to huge sales of the Borderlands games. It might not have made any money the box office but it helped people find the games.
