GTA V was the 5th best selling game last month in Europe in terms of both disc and digital sales. Rockstar Games’ most recent original game Red Dead Redemption 2 also made it into the top 20. April saw the next gen disc re-release of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S which will have contributed to it but plenty of people are still purchasing the last gen version as seen here. Overall, the game is still hugely successful for Rockstar Games.
GTA V down 1 place but here’s why
As reported by gamesindustry.biz using data released by GSD, GTA V placed 5th for the European charts last month. Compared to the March charts, it has actually gone down 1 place from 4th position. The reason for this is that mega hit LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga released at the start of April and was not counted in March. It took 1st place in April, becoming the fastest selling LEGO Game ever and the 5th most purchased game of 2022 just behind Elden Ring. The fact it did this in less than a month is impressive. Knocking GTA 5 down a place does not mean Rockstar’s game is slowing down yet though.

Red Dead 2 moves up a place
Back in March, Red Dead Redemption 2 was the 13th best selling game in Europe and last month it went up a place! For April 2022, it was the 12th best selling game which is a strong showing for a game released back in 2018 and its neglected online mode. The RDO community have been disappointed by a year of no content and just this week the #SaveRedDeadOnline was acknowledged by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. Take-Two also revealed Red Dead 2 had sold over 1 million more copies in the last 3 months worldwide taking the tally to over 44 million. Take-Two know they have a masterpiece here.
Zelnick said this week he “understands peoples frustrations and that more will be said by Rockstar Games in due time, also letting the community know that Rockstar Games are very busy and working on an awful lot at the moment.” When we hear anything from Rockstar we’ll keep you updated.
GTA Online leaves charts
Back in March, GTA Online was the 18th best selling game in Europe as it released on the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. As of March it is no longer in the top 20. It appears players are preferring to buy the full GTA V game with story and online over just the standalone version of online.
