GTA V has just become the most downloaded PS5 game once again despite releasing nearly 11 years ago. Sony and UK & Europe chart data has been released showing GTA V‘s continued and extraordinary success.
We also get a look at how well Red Dead Redemption 2 keeps doing. We’re halfway through the year and both of these Rockstar Games titles have been chart-topping just like last year.
GTA V dominates PlayStation 5
PlayStation released their monthly game charts on PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games for June this week. After being second place in the European chart for two months, it has taken the crown. As for the North American chart, it has rose from 5th to 1st.
The reason behind this growth is down to the release of the Bottom Dollar Bounties DLC. This summer content drop for GTA Online features several new vehicles, missions and more for players to enjoy.
Whilst it did not live up to expectations for some fans in terms of the amount of content, there is no doubt GTA Online will continue to do well until GTA VI releases if Rockstar keep doing DLCs. It is also worth noting that there were few new releases in June. How GTA V will fair in July will be interesting too. We’ll get those charts at the start of August.
As for the PS4 charts, moved from 10th to 4th in the European chart. In the United States of America and Canada chart, it also went up to 4th from 12th. This is quite some upgrade over May thanks to Bottom Dollar Bounties.
Red Dead Redemption 2 just keeps staying in position
Red Dead Redemption 2 was the second most downloaded PS4 game in the US/Canada for three months in a row. This is quite impressive considering there has been no new DLC for Red Dead Online. It also gained a place from third place to second in the chart for Europe. Minecraft took first place in both charts just like last month.
GTA V and GTA Online sell well across both disc and digital
The monthly UK games charts are also in for June. According to the data given out by GSD via gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the 2nd best selling game in the continent when all disc and digital sales were combined. This is up from 3rd position in May.
The standalone version of GTA Online came in at 9th position. Given most people just buy GTA V’s complete package and this version is only available on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, this is impressive. Meanwhile, Red Dead Redemption 2 re-joined the top 10 in 7th place.
Nothing is stopping GTA V
Once again, a similar story can be found in the monthly digital and physical charts for Europe. As reported by gamesindustry.biz, GTA V was the 2nd best selling game across Europe in May. This is up from 3rd place in April. Red Dead Redemption 2 came back into the Top 10 for 8th place too.
