Kicking off 2025 in style, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have given us some interesting download figures once again. The games continue to take on more recent games such as Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and EA FC 25. Sony chart data has just been released showing where Rockstar’s titles such as GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 placed in January.
GTA Online Update Sees More Growth
PlayStation have shared their monthly game charts on PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games for January this week. During last month, GTA V was the 2nd most downloaded PS5 title in the USA, Canada and Europe. This up is actually up a few places over December despite the Agents of Sabotage DLC coming out just before Christmas.
It is quite impressive how such an old game went from 4th to 2nd overtaking NBA 2K25, Madden NFL 25, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Hogwarts Legacy across both region charts. It is clear the game and current content drops are keeping interest.
Let’s know take a look at both charts for PS4 now. In both the US/Canada and Europe charts, it dropped from 5th place to 8th. This was expected given the requirement of PlayStation Plus to play GTA Online was removed for half of December.
We learned last week that GTA V has now sold 210 million copies since launch. This was accompanied with GTA+ growth of 10% year over year but a decline in Shark Card spending.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Continues Reign
Red Dead Redemption 2 continued its recent dominance. The game was previously the most downloaded PS4 game throughout December in the USA and Canada and 2nd in the European chart only to EA FC 25. This was the same story in January and despite no content updates.
Rockstar’s parent company revealed last week the game has now hit 70 million copies sold. It is now close to being the 6th best selling game of all time. This brings the total for the franchise to 95 million copies. The western also recently recorded an all time player count peak just shy of 100,000 on Steam alone.
