GTA V is now the most watched game on live streams according to a new report. It’s no surprise to see the game so dominant after it’s incredible year in live streaming last year.
Stream Hatchet have just released their Q3 2023 report for the last 3 months. This gives us an insight into the world of live streaming. It covers a ton of interesting metrics from what the market share of each platform is to how many hours are being watched per game.
GTA V becomes king of Twitch
In the months of August, September, and October, GTA V dominated the competition. It received over 358 million hours watched on Twitch during those months. This eclipsed the nearest game in second place that is League of Legends. Riot’s ever popular MOBA achieved 291m hours watched in comparison. Only “Just Chatting” which is not a game beat out GTA 5 with 798 million hours.
In recent months, Kick, the gambling backed streaming service, saw a rise in popularity. GTA V was had 9.5 million hours watched on that platform. However, it was dwarfed by “Slots & Casinos” and “Just Chatting”.
Ahead of the GTA 6 trailer, GTA V takes over live streaming
The report also collected and combined data from YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Twitch, and Kick. GTA V still reigned supreme with a total of 432 million hours watched last quarter. This is up a place from 2nd in the previous quarter. League of Legends was the previous game on the top of the podium but this quarter it saw a drop to second place with 356m hours watched.

Rockstar’s parent company discuss GTA RP
Grand Theft Auto V’s success on Twitch and other live streaming platforms can be attributed to GTA RP and FiveM. This was mentioned during Take-Two’s recent phone call with investors.
“We want to be where the consumer and what’s going on role playing is happening in two ways, People are playing role-playing servers but people are watching what they’re doing on Twitch.
Both are really interesting. Actual number of people playing is a relative modest audience, it’s in the hundreds of thousands. But the people watching, that’s a huge audience. We’re interested in our intellectual property is protected. We’re also really interested in meeting the consumer with the consumer is. For certain consumers modding is really important activity.
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick
We can see that Rockstar Games and Take-Two acknowledge GTA RP’s success and have purchased FiveM. They also have suggested some changes to monetisation may also occur.
