Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have continued their strong form from the first half of 2023 in terms of sales and downloads. The results of July 2023 show these two from Rockstar Games beat out titles newly released in 2023.

New reports with verified data shows these two titles from Rockstar Games just keep on going despite their age and brand new blockbuster releases. We’re over half way into the year now and the two titles are hanging on in the charts, even topping some of them.

PlayStation reveals GTA V tops the charts

PlayStation have released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games. After becoming 4th place in the the USA, Canada and Europe PS5 charts during June, GTA V shot to the top in July. Across both North America and Europe, it the most downloaded game beating out Remnant II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and FINAL FANTASY XVI.

This is likely down to many fans downloading the game ahead of the San Andreas Mercenaries update that arrived in early June. We’ve also seen continued drip-feed content release and big bonuses of money making.

As for the PS4 chart, it reached 4th place in North America again. However, in Europe it took the top spot on the podium once again. This up from 4th place in the previous month of June.

We can also see how Red Dead Redemption 2 did in July as well. For the US and Canada chart, it smashed the competition and took first place. This is up from 3rd place a month earlier. Meanwhile across the pond it came runner up to GTA V for Europe, up 2 places. Red Dead 2 can only be counted in the PS4 chart as there is only a PS4 version.

European Chart Placements

GTA V claims yet another crown. Even though we are just a month away from GTA V’s 10 year anniversary, the game was the best selling game across Europe last month. This is a big jump from 5th place during the previous month. This comes hand-in-hand with the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles selling well during the summer. The price cut of the PS5 aided GTA V upwards.

As for Red Dead Redemption 2, it was catapulted into 3rd place from 8th place. This is yet another strong showing despite being on last gen consoles only and no new content.

UK Chart Placements

The report for UK digital and physical games sales for July 2023 were released last week by GSD via gamesindustry.biz.

GTA V moves up from 7th as the 2nd best selling game in the UK for July 2023 behind FIFA 23. This is a huge spike, mostly down to big discounts on both Xbox and PlayStation.

Red Dead Redemption 2 also saw a huge bump. It moved from 10th place in June to be the 3rd best selling game last month just behind GTA V.

In terms of disc sales in the week commencing August 7th, GTA V moved from 10th place to 5th. It has an increase of 6% in sales and 60% of the copies sold were on PS5. Red Dead went from 36tth to 16th place, 60% sales increase.
