Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 have one again continued their strong start in 2023 in terms of sales and downloads. New reports with verified data shows these two titles from Rockstar Games just keep on going despite their age and brand new blockbuster releases. We’re three months into the year now and the two titles are hanging on in the charts.
Sony reveals GTA V is keeping up
PlayStation released their monthly game charts for PS5, PS4, PSVR and F2P games on Monday. After becoming third place in Europe and sixth place in USA/Canada last month, GTA 5 moved up a bit. It ended April in 4th place for the USA and Canada last month. This is up from 6th place last month. This also includes two new releases above it, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Dead Island 2. If those games did not release, GTA V would have been the second most downloaded game! As for Europe, it came in 3rd place again.
As for the PS4 chart, in March it was in 9th and 7th position but in April it has moved down to 9th place throughout the US and Canada. Meanwhile it gained places up to 4th place in Europe.
The PS4 positions are on a continuous downwards trajectory due to far more PS5 stock being made available in the last couple of months. Plenty of players who have upgraded their consoles will want to take advantage of the powerful hardware and play the next gen version of GTA V and GTA Online.
We can also see how Red Dead Redemption 2 is doing in April as well. It has stayed above GTA V in both the US/Canada charts for the last three months. In the previous monthly charts for March, the game was in 8th and 7th positions.
This month however, it has gone from 7th to 4th in Europe! As for North America, it drops a place to 9th. Red Dead 2 can only be counted in the PS4 chart as there is only a PS4 version. It appears Red Dead 2’s rise in downloads has peaked and has begun dropping again.
UK Chart Placements
The report for UK digital and physical games sales for April 2023 were released on Wednesday by GSD via gamesindustry.biz. The report explains how Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been the fastest-selling game last month. The PS5 has also been widely available in the region for the last few months.
As for specifics on Rockstar titles, GTA V was up a place as the 4th best selling game in the UK for April 2023 behind Jedi Survivor, Dead Island 2 and FIFA 23. This is up a place from last month. Red Dead Redemption 2 has remained in the top 10 again as well. It was the 8th best selling game last month; the same last the previous month.
