With GTA 6 on the horizon, GTA V was the second most watched game across all livestreaming platforms in 2025. Plus, we find out an actual player count number for GTA Online.
Analytics firm Stream Hatchet confirmed this week in their 2025 streaming report that GTA V was the second most watched game in 2025 via livestreaming in terms of hours watched. This is on all of the different streaming platforms combined such as Twitch and YouTube.
GTA V clocked in over 1.9 billion hours watched on live streams last year. This is down 5% from 2024. Given the prior year saw big growth (21.3%), GTA VI was expected to be out in 2025 and lots of other popular games out this year, this dip is not all too surprising.
League of Legends retook the top spot after GTA V’s victory over it last year. Riot’s MOBA saw a 4% increase in viewership to 1.95b. This is lower than GTA V’s 2b figure in 2024. So despite GTA V slipping down a place, LoL still did not meet the height that GTA V did in 2024. Both GTA V and LoL dwarf the competition with CS2 having 1.28b in 3rd place and the rest of the top few games under 1b hours watched.
It Is The Genre
Another fun stat is just how much GTA V contributed to the action/adventure genre. The genre recorded 3.8b hours watched in 2025 which is slightly up from 2024. GTA V earned 50% of all of those hours watched.

GTA live content tends to be found on Twitch. Much of that being GTA RP streams. Interestingly, Twitch lost 8.3% of its market share in 2025. Whereas Kick gained 6.7%. Overall, 6% more hours were watched in 2025 compared to 2024 when all platforms were combined.
Looking Ahead
Once GTA VI releases, things will split. There will be plenty of people sticking to streaming and watching GTA RP on GTA V as opposed to GTA VI. Given the split, we’ll likely see two GTA titles in the top 10. GTA 6 is set to come out at the end of November giving it only a little over a month to earn data in these charts. It might be a tall order to have it earn so many hours watched given so many people will prefer to play it than watch it.
Playercounts
A new report from Ampere Analysis has revealed the amount of people playing GTA Online/GTA V during the month of May last year. The firm have revealed over 19 million people played GTA V/GTA Online in May 2025 on either Xbox or PlayStation. This does not include PC players. It was the 3rd most played title in terms of monthly active users that month and it tends to be in that position every month. In the same month, Red Dead Redemption 2 had 4 million players.
