Grand Theft Auto V was the second most downloaded game on the PlayStation 4 in all of 2022 according to PlayStation’s new charts data. The company has revealed the top downloaded PS5, PS4, free-to-play and PSVR games in 2022.
Despite numerous of significant new games releasing such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA 23, Elden Ring and more, Rockstar Games’ colossal blockbuster still dominates. We knew GTA V had a good chance of showing up in the top 5 as it has consistently charted in and around the top in the monthly reports.
No god can stop GTA V

GTA V defeated Kratos and God of War Ragnarök along with Elden Ring in both the US/Canada and European charts. First place in North America went to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II whilst FIFA 23 was on top in Europe. GTA V came second in both charts for all of the year though. This is actually down from first place in the US and Canada last year but MWII came out this year. It was second place in Europe last year so no change there.
As for Grand Theft Auto V on the PlayStation 5 in North America, it was the 6th most downloaded game in 2022 for the USA and Canada. It was one place better in Europe hitting fifth place. The PS5 charts only takes into account the PS5 specific version Rockstar released in spring 2022. GTA V was the second most watched game via livestreams last year too.
Red Dead Redemption 2 improves year over year

Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 moved up a couple of places in 2022 over 2021 despite no new major content updates. In Europe, it hit sixth place up from seventh in the previous year. It was in eighth place for the USA and Canada but it went to sixth in 2022. The game does not have a PS5 version so it only shows up in the PS4 charts. This does count downloads to PS5 consoles though.
