The GTA Trilogy has now passed 36 million downloads with the Netflix Games mobile version. This huge number has been achieved in just 9 months after launch. We also have an interesting breakdown of numbers for each of the individual games part of the trilogy which we’ll get into.
GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition launched on December 14th for iOS and Android devices. It was Netflix’s “most successful launch to date in terms of installs and engagement“. The previous reported figures by Netflix were a total of 18 million downloads. This came just over a month after the mobile release of this iconic trilogy.
Since then, it has gone onto have over 36.6 million downloads across the three titles. This is up from 30 million in June. These latest figures come from Appmagic data that has been analysed by mobilegamer.biz.
It is is worth noting anyone can download the Netflix Games version of the three classics for free. To actually play them, you have to sign in with an active Netflix subscription upon opening the app.
It is unknown how many people have simply downloaded the apps without a Netflix subscription even if they are useless without it. There are mobile versions that cost real money Netflix subscription and no Netflix subscription to play though they are not as popular.
Despite all of that, over 36 million downloads is still a big achievement. Without the Netflix deal, it is highly doubtful the mobile port of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition would have reached anything close to tens of millions of downloads.
Numbers breakdown
Let’s now take a look at all of the separate games’ download numbers. According to Appmagic, GTA: San Andreas is still on top with 25.2 million installs of the 36.6m. This is up from 20.5 million in June.
Second place, like last time, is GTA: Vice City. This had a total of 7.8 million downloads, up from 6.5m in June. Last in downloads but certainly not least is GTA III. It reached 3.6 million total downloads, up 300k from June.
In the last 30 days, the most downloaded game via Netflix was GTA San Andreas with an impressive 1.6 million downloads. GTA Vice City made it to 9th position with 406,000 installs.
More on the trilogy
These mobile versions actually feature improvements such as accurate lighting not seen in its PC and Console counterparts.
