The GTA Trilogy has now passed 30 million downloads with the Netflix Games mobile version. This huge number has been achieved in just 6 months after launch. We also have an interesting breakdown of numbers for each of the individual games part of the trilogy which we’ll get into.
These latest figures come from Appmagic data that has been analysed by mobilegamer.biz and reported on by Insider Gaming. The data has the total downloads clocking in at 30.3 million.
GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition launched on December 14th for iOS and Android devices. It was Netflix’s “most successful launch to date in terms of installs and engagement“. The previous reported figures by Netflix were a total of 18 million downloads. This came just over a month after the mobile release of this iconic trilogy.
That means around 12 million downloads have come in the past 5 months. This is a significant slowdown compared to the first month but hardly surprising. These are heavily delayed and controversial versions of old games.

Plus, it is is worth noting anyone can download the Netflix Games version of the three classics for free. To actually play them, you have to sign in with an active Netflix subscription upon opening the app.
It is unknown how many people have simply downloaded the apps without a Netflix subscription even if they are useless without it. There are mobile versions that cost real money Netflix subscription and no Netflix subscription to play though they are not as popular.
Despite all of that, 30 million downloads is still an achievement. Without the Netflix deal, it is highly doubtful the mobile port of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition would have reached anything close to tens of millions of downloads.
Numbers breakdown

Let’s now take a look at all of the separate games’ download numbers. According to Appmagic, GTA: San Andreas is still on top with 20.5 million installs of the 30.3m. This is up from 11.6 million in January. The iOS version made up the bulk of that with 15.8m installs whereas the Android version was 4.7m. That’s some decent growth for San Andreas.
We learned in January that this version of GTA San Andreas claimed the title of the single most downloaded game for Netflix. It beat out the previous record holder Storyteller that had 9.4 million at the time.
Second place, like last time, is GTA: Vice City. This had a total of 6.5 million downloads with 4.9m being from iOS and 1.6m coming from Android. Last in downloads but certainly not least is GTA III. It reached 3.3 million total downloads with 929+ coming from Android devices whereas 2.4m were from the iOS platform.

We also learn about the downloads by geographic region from Appmagic via mobilegamer.biz. A quarter of GTA SA downloads come from the USA with Brazil in second at 11%, Mexico and India are tied with 8% and UK has 4%.
The make up of Vice City is 23% USA, 18% for Brazil then the UK, India and Turkey are 5% apiece. Finally, GTA III has a quarter of downloads from the USA just like San Andreas, India gives it 12%, Brazil is at 6% then the UK and Mexico are tied at 5%.
More on the trilogy
These mobile versions actually feature improvements such as accurate lighting not seen in its PC and Console counterparts. Rockstar revealed a Classic Lighting mode to help fix a common complaint fans had with the console and PC ports. You can learn more about this feature here. It is unknown if these improvements will make their way to the PC and console releases.
