GTA+ subscriber counts have been leaked and the numbers will shock you. The amount of people paying $7.99 a month for in-game items has rose sharply in recent months and it goes to show that the ferocious backlash at launch had virtually no effect.
For those unaware, Rockstar were hacked by a group named ShinyHunters last week. They threatened publishing financial documents if their $200,000 ransom was not paid by Monday night. Rockstar did not comply so now we are getting interesting insights into the business of GTA Online.
Once Boycotted, Now Raining In Cash
Let’s take a look at actual GTA+ subscriber numbers. This one is particularly interesting because when GTA+ was first announced a few years ago, the core GTA Online community were extremely upset and revolted against it. There were campaigns to stop playing the game and try and hurt Rockstar by voting with their wallet. However, a lot has changed in four years.
We’ve known for quite some time now that GTA+ has continued to see double digit growth every other quarter such as even as high as 20% at the end of last year. That is in spite of a price increase back in 2024. Take-Two have been public in saying how much it has grown, that it beats expectations and how happy they are with it. One metric we have not known though is just how many people subscribe to it. Thanks to this recent leak we now know.
GTA+ Subscriber Count
Spotted by Twitter user @mnm345x, there are 878,284 active paying GTA+ members as of this month and GTA+ peaked at over 1.3 million active subscribers on January 11th this year. I think some people will be surprised to see it peaking as recent as this year. As we learned from the same leak, over 8 million people are playing GTA Online weekly. That’s means around 1 in 10 weekly active players are paying for GTA+
How Much Does GTA+ Make?

At $7.99 a month, that’s $10,799,036.31 in just one month. Most of those paying subscribers will be on Xbox and PlayStation meaning the platforms will take a 30% cut. Even so, that makes it to be over $7.5m a month. That is a real life money glitch for Rockstar with how little effort is required on their end for GTA+ in comparison to other things. On average, it is $2,262,725 a week and $344,501 per day. It makes up 26% of GTA Online’s revenue per leaked data.
That peak in January is due to the big promo they launched in December alongside the Safehouse in the Hills update. It offered players three months for the price of two. As seen in the chart below, there has been consistent growth with some huge spikes in people willing to pay for the bonus perks monthly. Those spikes you see are from new content updates when dripfed cars are included early or big new bonuses are added to the service. There has also been some promos such as the one mentioned above.
It will be interesting to see how GTA+ continues to evolve and grow ahead of GTA 6.
