GTA Online has suffered network attacks by disgruntled players following the launch of a new anti-cheat.
First spotted by content creator Mors Mutual, both GTA Online and Red Dead Online servers went down. Fans loading into GTA Online to kick off their weekend experienced login issues for a short while. These issues were reported on Rockstar’s own service status site. It showed GTA Online and Red Dead Online for all platforms had limited access.
After a short time of downtime, the servers did resume back to their normal functionality. However, it might not be the last of it. Mors notes that “The ones responsible plan to send more frequent DDOS attacks from now on until Rockstar makes it harder for them to DDOS”.
The content creator states he expects more attacks on GTA Online in the coming days. He went onto say that the mastermind behind the attack early on Saturday apparently used a group of bots to flood Rockstar’s authentication servers.
Anti-cheat maker also attacked
On top of that, the website for the new anti-cheat software faced similar attacks from another bad actor. BattlEye’s official website was hit and down for a few hours. Since then, service has resumed.
Of course, these attacks won’t make Rockstar Games remove BattlEye just a few days after its introduction. It’s only causing harm to the users who just want to play the game; even console gamers faced the server issues and there is no BattlEye there.
In related news, Valve are working with Rockstar Games to resolve GTA V’s issues on Linux-based devices such as the Steam Deck. These were a victim of the addition of BattleEye this week. Some free mod menus have already ceased to work thanks to this anti-cheat. Rockstar are also taking ban appeals if you feel like there was a mistake.

You should make it clear
Rockstar does not use servers for any game.
The games peer to peer.
There are no dedicated servers.
How else would they make billions if they spent money to make you’re experience better? I’m kinda glad the tarts that need to cheat to feel any kind of self satisfaction have that taken from them. They are half the reason I consider GTA5 the worse out of the series. The single player sucked to. Way to empty and boring. No DLC ect.
Nothing says “trust me, we don’t need moderation software, we’re so well behaved” like a bunch of children illegally attacking servers because they’re mad they can’t ruin the experience for everyone else who plays the game. This action is only proof the move was good on Rockstar, the rest of us have been asking for a did to this trouble for years.

I look at it this way if you want to mod GTA or Red Dead they both have a devoted server listing GTA is called 5M and Red Dead is called RedM all the modders need to quit being babies just because you can’t play the games doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t
Easy anti cheat is first step in right direction., its only those who cheat who is crying
So because they can’t cheat they committed felonies, real smart.
Should get rid of the oppressor while their at it. Ruined the game
I am glad they are doing this and the way I see it all modders and cheaters and glitches or game exploiters should all get the ban hammer. 2 days ago I uploaded a video to my YouTube where a game exploiter used some kind of god mode glitch and tagged their PSN in the video itself. Good riddance
As of 9/30/2024 the servers are still being hacked even worse. Now when they hit it, they flood all players to be mass killed over and over, gets the player ID banned they did it with, then it forces you off the server and reboot the game. Its a nasty server side killer thats hitting now.
Hope you guys at Rockstar get this shit together soon. its getting old being bounced constantly by the hackers.
