Rockstar Games Reveal New GTA Online Zombie Mode Challenge Update

In just a little over two days, the GTA Online community have completely destroyed the target set by Rockstar Games for their latest mode’s challenge: the North Yankton Nightmare Community Challenge. Due to this, Rockstar are giving out even more rewards.

On Thursday, the company asked GTA Online players to slay 80 million zombies in the new Ludendorff Cemetery Survival to earn some Halloween rewards. Then the players set out to work. Over 900,000 people have played the mode in two days. Just under half of that came within the first day and was a huge increase over the previous mode. Learn more here.

In first for GTA Online, Rockstar also launched a progress bar for this community challenge. In previous challenges, we’d have no idea what our progress was until Rockstar would tweet we’re either half way there or have completed it. That progress bar was not needed though.

Weekend Rockstar Tweet Update

In a Tweet posted late on Saturday night, Rockstar said “You’ve already smashed the North Yankton Nightmare Community Challenge, with over 200 million zombies vanquished — nice work!” That’s more than double the original goal hit in just around 48 hours.

The rewards for doing this are the Orange Glow Skeleton Onesie and Red Hooded Skull Mask. These promised rewards will be given to all GTA Online players “in the coming days” say Rockstar.

UPDATE on Sunday 13th October:

Rockstar Games have now revealed the community have slain over 430 million zombies. That’s 200 million in 24 hours.

Extended Target And Rewards

Furthermore, Rockstar Games Tweeted that they have created new goals and rewards for this community challenge given how fast we completed it. The goal is now 800 million zombies killed in the mode. In exchange, GTA Online players will earn the Purple Glow and Green Glow Skeleton Onesies. These look much like the orange one in the picture above but with different colours. The progress bar was also updated to display new milestones up to 800m and our recent amount.

UPDATE on 18th October: Rockstar Games have confirmed via their progress tracker that we have completed the challenge. The rewards will be given out on Thursday.

This mode has been long awaited by fans for the fact that we’d be revisiting the GTA V Story Mode North Yankton location and fighting zombies. It’s certainly no surprise fans flocked to play and slay. If you’d like to learn more about this mode and other rewards you can get by playing it, check out this article.
