The amount of money GTA Online has made including an eye watering amount of profits thanks to Shark Cards has been leaked. Financial data including just how much is made daily, yearly and more is now exposed for everyone to see.
For those unaware, Rockstar were hacked by a group named ShinyHunters last week. They threatened to publish financial documents if their ransom was not paid and that is exactly what has happened. ShinyHunters confirmed yesterday that their demands were not met by Rockstar Games. The teenage group of hackers requested $200,000 from the company to stop the leak. Based on what we know because the group did leak information, that amount of cash is extremely tiny for Rockstar.
Cash Earned Per Year
Firstly, let’s take at how much money GTA Online has made every single year since launch which has been found in the leaked files.
- 2014 – $21,501,118
- 2015 – $184,766,514
- 2016 – $313,821,489
- 2017 – $504,148,348
- 2018 – $414,300,757
- 2019 – $470,804,610
- 2020 – $743,992,975
- 2021 – $653,934,228
- 2022 – $450,740,544
- 2023 – $411,052,946
- 2024 – $403,978,895
- 2025 – $400,456,128 2025
- 2026 (up to April) – $109,692,497
As you can see, GTA Online (Shark Cards and GTA+) has made an incredible amount of revenue for Rockstar. It now totals over $5 billion since it’s introduction in 2013. The biggest jump in growth came from the COVID pandemic in 2020. Since then there has been a steady decline but the past three years have been relatively stable despite the extended wait for GTA 6. The game has also made over $100 million this year to date so far.
GTA Forums user Lexiture spotted that between September 2025 and April 2026, the annual estimate GTA Online will make is just under half a billion dollars. The average daily revenue is just over one million and the weekly amount can reach as high as $28 million. Shark cards make up 74% of the game’s revenue. The remainder is left for GTA+.
Spend By Country

We also have the top 10 countries by expenditure during the period of September 9th 2025 through March 24th 2026. As expected, the United States of America leads the way by over a hundred million having a grand a total of $153 million.
The United Kingdom comes in second place with $25 million. Germany is in third place with $16 million. These are followed by Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, switzerland, Italy and Spain that are all under 10 million.
One very interesting detail from this data leak is that a small fraction of the playbase are actually spending money. In fact it is an extremely small percentage that’s making all this money for Rockstar: 4% during this time frame. 4% of players are also new players to the game in the exact same time frame.
Best Performing Times
As spotted by Twitter user @videotech, Grand Theft Auto Online’s best performing update on a single day was The Cayo Perico Heist. It’s earned Rockstar around $8,485,033 on Christmas Day 2020. Speaking of 2020, the COVID pandemic saw the game reach all time highs of revenue throughout the year thanks to several lockdowns which spiked spending. The game’s peak daily active user count was 9.34 million people in May 2020.
Another fun stat is on Average Revenue Per Paying User (ARPPU). During Christmas 2025, the ARPPU was $60.68. That is thanks to the A Safehouse in the Hills update. The irony is that Shark Cards or satirically named and based on financially and predatory schemes plus “whales” who spend big on games.
Clearing Up A False Claim
I also want to bring attention to some false information being spread online. Posts on social media have claimed a single Xbox One user based in the US spent a total of one million dollars Megalodon Shark Cards in the USA. This is a flat out lie. These accounts have once again misread the data.
As spotted by GTA forums user Mattmo831, the Shark Cards have the store IDS refreshed on PlayStation and Xbox every few months. The totals spotted for Shark Cards were for that specific shock card store ID. It just so happened the best booking for Shark Cards were on Christmas Day it will be because I’ll be adding 2020 on Xbox One with USA players.
In other related news from the leak, player counts for GTA Online have been released plus GTA+ subscriber counts have also been revealed.
