Grand Theft Hamlet, the film made entirely inside of GTA Online has finally gotten an international release date. There’s also a new trailer to go along with it. The award winning documentary was written and directed by Pinny Grylls and Sam Crane and earned a release in UK cinemas earlier this month.
We went to a screening and wrote a review here. It is still in cinemas until January 31st in the UK. Now GTA Online fans from around the world will be able to watch it in both cinemas and via streaming.
The hilarious yet moving film centres around two actors who play GTA Online during the pandemic. They attempt to perform Shakespeare’s Hamlet at the Vinewood Bowl in Los Santos with random players in the lobbies they play in.
Film distributor MUBI announced on Thursday that Grand Theft Hamlet will be released in US theatres on Friday 17th January 2025. You can watch the new trailer that was released for the US theatrical run here.
It is currently unknown when the film will be made available to stream worldwide. We’d expect to see it sometime after the run in US theatres ends in early 2025. Below is the official synopsis from MUBI.
GRAND THEFT HAMLET by Sam Crane and Pinny Grylls follows two out-of-work actors as they try to stage Hamlet entirely inside the chaotic world of Grand Theft Auto Online. Hailed as “the year’s funniest documentary” by Time Out, this SXSW-winning documentary is chaotic, hilarious, and just a little bit insane.
