The GTA V source code leak contains files from Rockstar Games’ cancelled Agent game. We now have finally seen the face of the game’s protagonist in a proper view. GTA forums user XanaBax has appeared to make quite the discovery from it. Within the files of this leaked GTA V source, there is a character model that is seemingly the protagonist that we would have played as in Rockstar’s canned Agent game.
Correction: The article originally mentioned the Agent files were from the recent GTA IV beta leak rather than the GTA V source code leak from a few years ago. This article has been amended for this.
The Rockstar Spy Thriller We Never Got
Inspired by James Bond and set during the Cold War, Rockstar North were busy developing a “genre-defining” stealth action game around the same time as GTA IV. Rockstar co-founder and lead writer Dan Houser revealed last year that various iterations of the game were made. However, he stated spy concept just could not work as an open world game much like all of Rockstar’s other titles.
Our First Look At The Agent
According to XanaBax, a character model in the GTA V files can be found in a folder called Jimmy. Agent’s codename during development was named Jimmy. Also, the main node in the file structure hierarchy is “player” suggesting this is the protagonist.

It is certainly not Niko Bellic even if there are some similarities with the model. They seemingly took Niko’s head and edited it. The UV map is very similar aside from the hairline notes the GTA forums user. The character’s boots are even the standard footwear Niko wears. The trousers are also Bellic’s cargo pants with some slight alterations. This model also looks similar to the character found in some of the Agent screenshots uploaded in an artist’s portfolio back in 2011.

The character model head file has a date of June 25th 2009 and is a Rockstar North-created asset based on the file name. We learned in 2023 that following GTA San Andreas’ launch, Rockstar North was divided up into two teams: GTA IV and Agent. Rockstar San Diego were also already developing a James Bond-like game at the time.
