Following the release of GTA Online’s most recent two content updates, many fans have talked about how the new vehicles have been “backported” from GTA VI. In the first Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, we saw plenty of vehicles which were not in GTA V/GTA Online.
Since then, Rockstar Games have released those cars into the game. This had led to many fans speculating Rockstar are bringing the GTA VI cars over to GTA V’s Online mode. This became a big talking point on the release day of Bottom Dollar Bounties and The Chop Shop. However, an expert has shared why that is not the case. In fact, it is the other way around.
GTA community member Monkeypolice188 who is a 3D artist, creates mods for GTA V, and is an administrator on the GTA Wiki took to Twitter to debunk these claims.
Nothing is being ported from GTA
The creator explains that it would be illogical for Rockstar’s workflow to take the new high quality models and bring them over to GTA Online. The pipelines are separate in which they make a car for GTA Online then upgrade it for GTA VI. In particular, the big enhancements will come to the interior as we’ve seen with the leaked videos in 2022.
Also, a lot of the new vehicles we are seeing were originally planned for the cancelled 2020 Cops ‘n’ Crooks DLC. An example Monkeypolice188 gives is the Bravado Gauntlet Interceptor.
None, because they don’t back port content. The vehicles are made for V/O before they’re improved for VI. That’s a logical workflow. We have yet to see any vehicle that’s been seen in VI before it’s been in V/O, and that’s why.

One fan who disputes Monkeypolice188’s explanation said the detail on the new waves of cars is much higher than previous vehicles Rockstar made for GTA V. The artist shares that the GTA Online version of say the Declasse Tulip uses fake Ambient Occlusion gaps for the door seams. In GTA VI, the Tulip actually has physical gaps.
Another example Monkeypolice188 gives is the brand new Übermacht Niboe. It is more detailed than previous cars added to GTA Online over the past decade but that’s more down to making it easier to upgrade them for GTA VI. More examples were given by the artist on his Twitter page.
So far I have yet to see any proof that this is the case. Take the Granger LX for example; the VI model sees the addition of a rear plate holder and handle. It would not make sense to remove such details for V. It’s very clear they make stuff for V before upgrading it for VI.
