Rockstar Games have announced in a Tweet and Newswire post shared on Thursday that the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed once again. Originally set to release in Fall 2025 and then Tuesday May 26th 2026, it will now come out on Thursday November 19th 2026.
You can read Rockstar’s full statement below which was posted alongside the logo for the game and nothing more:
Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.
Sincerely,
Rockstar Games
So the company state to fans they need an additional 6 months to polish the game up to their standards. Many fans had gained some hope Rockstar would actually be sticking to May 2026. Especially as their parent company, Take-Two Interactive, was telling investors recently that it was still on target for that May 26th 2026 date.

News in some form was expected around this time as we were approaching the half year mark before its scheduled release. Plus, Take-Two hold an investor’s report today. Take-Two’s share price lost around 10% following news of the delay.
This news is still extremely disappointing to fans given the lack of any communication on the game for around 6 months now. There was no new screenshots or trailer 3 that could soften the blow of a delay.
This delay comes as GTA 6 developers who were fired last week have protest outside Rockstar’s offices. Learn more here.
