When Rockstar Games delayed GTA 6 yet again last week, tens of millions of people worldwide felt the effect of the announcement. It became the most talked about thing on several social media channels and spawned lots of jokes from other corporate brand and more. With anticipation so high, the news made its way into areas you’d least expect including government meetings.
“This is a huge scandal…”
Spotted by Reddit user Tjudool who posted it to the r/GTA6 subreddit, the Parliament of Poland heard one MP’s thoughts on the release date shift.
Witold Tumanowicz who is part of the far right Confederation party and MP for Chełm took to the stand on Thursday. Below is the speech he gave in session; translated from Polish to English:
“As part of my parliamentary statement, I wanted to inform you about a very disturbing matter. An hour ago, Rockstar Games announced that the release of GTA VI will be postponed until next year. This is a huge scandal. Frankly, if people don’t take to the streets after something like this…I don’t know what will happen.” – Witold Tumanowicz
If we’re being accurate, the game was already delayed until next year, May 2026. It has just moved to November 19th.
His speech received a somewhat mixed reception from other MPs. To be clear, the politician said this with a smile on his face and in a joking manner. The fact that an irrelevant topic to Polish politics was brought up in an unserious way within the Sejm has angered some Poles.
Headlines have called it an “absurd scene” whereas commenters on social media have voiced their frustration. However, others see Tumanowicz’s speech as satire of how parliament have been discussing trivial matters.
