The latest GTA 6 delay was not caused by the staff firings that took place a week ago according to people on both sides of the battle. From the man at the very top of Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company to investigative journalists, we will be taking a look at what has been said. All of this was shared in the aftermath of Grand Theft Auto VI being moved from May 26th to November 19th 2026.
Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive published their quarterly financial data on Thursday just minutes after the delay announcement. As part of this, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick did a media tour discussing the delay and more. We’ve already covered his words on the delay but in one of the articles from the press briefings, a Take-Two spokesperson gave a statement to Variety on the pressing matter.
“These two matters are entirely separate, and the reasons that we’ve given for each. And I think to conflate the two would not only be misleading, it would be highly erroneous. So these are two entirely separate issues.” – Take-Two Spokesperson
Previously, speakers for Take-Two claimed the sacking of nearly 40 Rockstar Games staff members was for “gross misconduct“. There has been little else said on the matter by the two companies. A crowd protested outside Take-Two’s London office early on Thursday morning.
Given the timing of these two events and the fact that Zelnick said he felt “very, very good” about the May release date, fans are struggling to believe Take-Two’s word.
The Other Side

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier who originally broke the news of the firings last week chimed in on the delay. The journalist stated on ResetEra that this slip in release date was not caused by last week’s events. The only reason why the delay was announced late on Thursday was because Take-Two had to report their earnings to investors on that day.
Jason does note that there could still be an impact felt from the firings into the future though. Given 34 roles are now empty and morale is plummeting, this could “lead to more missed deadlines in the future”.
Game dev interviewer Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly also shared what he knows on the situation in a Tweet. Reilly revealed developers had told him prior to the delay announcement that there was going to be a shift in release date. He added that “the game is content complete” and it is all about polishing the game to avoid a disastrous launch.
So all in all, last week’s events was not anything to do with the new delay. Such an expensive decision at a studio that employees thousands was not taken over 34 of them. That said, we could see repercussions publicly but the effects will be first felt internally. Another delay to 2027 is not impossible. A current Rockstar Games developer spilled the beans on low morale and more regarding the apparent union busting. Learn more here.

The delay is very annoying. How about stop putting content out for GTA5 online. The game sucks now anyways. The movement of the characters is absolute garbage, The graphics are horrible. But I do have some ideas to share with Rockstar Games about Gta 6. THIS GAME IS SUPPOSSED TO BE AN ADULT GAME. Which means that GTA 6 doesn’t need SNOW in DECEMBER. We don’t care about stupid Halloween crap. And avoid missions where people are supposedly high. EITHER nobody at Rockstar has tried good drugs or they don’t know how to apply those feelings to the game. All attempts previously, were huge failures, as the Fooligan and weed shop sell missions proved. Absolute failures, worst missions ever. So, if GTA 6 has missions like this, or snow, or stupid Halloween Crap, or Valentines day Bullshit, make that part of the “POLISHING ” process. Please release Gta 6 already!!!! Stop fucking around.
