GTA 6 could increase the price tag of videogames

Rumors have been going around the internet for years about what the price tag of Grand Theft Auto VI will be, and since the GTA VI announcement 8 months ago, this topic has only become more popular. With a game director speaking out saying most games should cost more and studios are just waiting for GTA 6 to do so.

A triple A video game has a base price of around £60 / £70. With the latest Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 being priced digitally at £69.99 for the standard edition then increasing more and more if you upgrade the edition. A physical edition of BO6 is priced around £57. Gamers haven’t really been impressed with the £70 base price mark for video games when on Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3 days you could get a Triple A game for around £40 and the game would actually release fixed and wouldn’t require 50 updates and 2 years of your life for it to be fixed.

GTA 6 could cause Video games to increase price tag

Over on Twitter (X), the director of publishing for Baldur’s Gate 3, Michael Douse has said Video game studios are waiting for the price tag of Grand Theft Auto 6 to increase the base price of their games. Due to the sheer size that GTA 6 will be at launch, with it going to be the biggest game to ever release, we all expect it to cost more than £70, with a lot of people on social media expecting it to closer to the £100, Over a 40% increase in price.

Michael Douse said almost every video game should cost more at base level due to costs and inflation is outpacing pricing trends in the industry. He then goes on saying that everyone is just waiting for Rockstar to increase the base price for GTA 6 before everyone else then goes on to do the same thing.

Would you support video games costing more than £70 for the base game? When you see companies such as Activision, EA and Take-Two making more money than what they know what to do with it, then we think publishers don’t need to increase the price of Triple A games. Just another way to give more money to shareholders.

Almost all games should cost more at a base level because the cost of making them (inflation, for one) is outpacing pricing trends. But I don’t think we’ll get there with DLC promises so much as quality & communication. Everyone’s just waiting for GTA6 to do it lol.

Only issue is with this new mod it’s only for PC users only and not for all platforms cos rockstar can’t be bothered to add that into all platforms or give the players what they want or add into the game or even improve or allow the ligit clean non modded players who’ve not once mod their account migrate their GTA online account over to GTA 6🥺
