The ’27’ theory that had Rockstar Games fans hoping to see a glimpse of GTA 6 before the new year has officially been proven false. Enthusiasts eagerly awaited Friday, December 27th, convinced this was the most plausible conspiracy yet, but an ad for the Rockstar holiday sale appeared instead. Fans have been left heartbroken.
The Theory
Last week fans were certain they were onto something when a Rockstar employee’s post surfaced online, showing off Rockstar merch as a Christmas gift with a color scheme strikingly similar to GTA 6’s logo and artwork. Fans then noticed a notepad on the bottom highlighting a trip to Florida, leading to a car company called ’27 Auto Sales’. The speculation snowballed further when fans pointed out that Rockstar had exactly 27 posts and reels on their Instagram. This lead fans to believe we would get new information about GTA 6 on December 27th.
‘Darkest Troll I’ve Seen’
Fans waited and then….nothing, except a holiday sale post. Community member @TGGonYT expressed pride he was part of the movement, stating he at the very least had hope, and calling it a ‘win’. One of the leaders of the 27 movement, @cyberboiuk, called it ‘the darkest troll’ he has seen. Pointing out Rockstar posted four minutes earlier than usual.
I am proud to say that I was a true 27er. The result didn't go our way, but we will never stop having HOPE!

Let the doubters have their giggle, at least we have our faith. That's a win in my book. Never stop believing! pic.twitter.com/m8iWsbXdx4
Actually the darkest troll I’ve seen hahah.

They also posted the same post as the other day, and earlier than normal. Weird. https://t.co/5AXDtCESAZ
Prominent community member and insider @TezFun2 dismissed the theory from the start, calling it “delusional” and noting that Rockstar Games does not tease announcements through their employees. Tez faced criticism for his stance, with some disregarding him as an insider and labeling him pessimistic. Despite the backlash, his skepticism proved to be correct.

Ned Luke chimes in on the fun
On December 26th, actor Ned Luke, best known as Michael De Santa from GTA V, added fuel to the speculation by posting “December 27th.” While some initially saw this as a nod to the theory, seasoned community members viewed it as more of a debunk than a confirmation. It later became clear the post was simply part of a partnered promotion with Asus.
December 27th ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

With the 27th now ruled out, hope for new GTA 6 information before the end of the year has faded. This has reignited fears that the game’s release could be delayed until 2026. Something that would surely be announced before Take-Two’s fiscal quarter ends March 31, 2025.
