An explosion has been reported coming from Rockstar North, the main development office for GTA 6. Emergency services were quick to respond to the Edinburgh-based building according to local media reports.
It is said police had taped off access to Rockstar North’s office which is located on Holyrood Road, Edinburgh. Uncited reports from Edinburgh Live claim it was an explosion in the boiler room.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service teams have told Edinburgh Live that a phone call was made at 5:02am on Monday morning following an explosion at building on Holyrood Road. “We mobilised three pumps and four of our specialist appliances. It’s an ongoing incident and we’re still in attendance at the moment with other agencies.”

Telling The Herald, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service attempted to secure “structural damage” to the building. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported by the emergency services a spokesperson confirmed to the outlet. The latest update we have is the crews “left the scene at 9.21am.”
That is all that has been officially reported at the moment so we’ll have to wait and see if the police make a further update on the situation. We’ll be sure to update this page with any information that comes in relating to this event.
UPDATE: 2:09pm BST – Rockstar Games have provided Kotaku with a statement about the incident. The company confirm that there was indeed a malfunction with one of the boilers inside Rockstar North. They say “Many thanks to those that reached out with concern, and also to the police and fire crews who were on scene quickly to assess the situation–please know that everyone is well and our studio remains open and operational.”
Rockstar North has been the centre of a lot of attention in recent weeks following the dismissal of over 30 staff members. Edinburgh, as a city, is proud such a blockbuster like GTA 6 is being largely made within the area. Local politicians both in the council and wider UK government have been vocal in their support for the Rockstar Games staffers who have lost their jobs. Even the UK Prime Minister has gotten involved. Whilst Rockstar won the first hurdle in court, the full trial is yet to take place.
