In a wake of reports, Microsoft Corp is preparing to launch its newest feature to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft’s new cloud gaming service for Xbox Game Pass members.
In June 2022, Xbox’s Sarah Bond, Corporate Vice President announced the company plans to extend the cloud gaming program to more games that users own later this year, rather than only featuring games available on Xbox Game Pass, although noted it may only extend to selected titles under publisher permission.
It appears Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive, Inc has decided to approve this, now with Xbox Cloud Gaming appearing on Rockstar Support for Red Dead Online and GTA Online.
Interestingly enough, Microsoft has officially added Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox One versions on Xbox Cloud Gaming’s catalog, but remain inaccessible and the page can currently be accessed through a link.

This is not the first time Rockstar’s titles have been playing via Xbox Cloud Streaming. GTA V, Red Dead Redemption II and Red Dead Online all were playable via Xbox’s cloud service when they were part of Game Pass in 2021. A lot of GTA players were happy to play the blockbuster story and continue their criminal career in Los Santos. While Red Dead fans enjoyed exploring the incredible open world anywhere in the real world. During the 2 times both GTA V and RDR2 were in Xbox cloud streaming, they were part of Xbox Game Pass. It does look like this time this will not be the case. You will need to own the digital version of RDR2 or GTA V and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription to play if the games do not come to Game Pass.
Update: 10th August
Microsoft has released a statement to Eurogamer saying “We’re aware of a bug that incorrectly displayed some titles as available with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. We rolled out a fix and this is now updated.” This is confusing considering Rockstar Support’s website was updated to show Xbox Cloud Streaming status updates as seen in this article.
