Rockstar Games will be offering a free upgrade to GTA Online and GTA V players on June 18th. This means players on older consoles or are playing the worse version of the game on current generation hardware can now experience all of the new content free of charge.
On Wednesday, Rockstar Games put out a Newswire post that revealed some details regarding this summer’s GTA Online DLC. Titled The Kortz Center Heist, it will bring another heist to the game next month. However, there is something else coming sooner. In the same article, Rockstar reveal a free next-gen upgrade will be taking place.
From Thursday June 18th, anyone who owns any PS4 version or the digital Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V will be entitled to a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version that came out a few years ago. This is similar to how GTA V (Legacy) owners on PC got the Enhanced version for free.
This means if you do not have the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version of GTA V and GTA Online yet but own the last gen version, you can make the switch. It is complete with new graphical and technical improvements plus exclusive content.
Upgrading is easy. You can migrate your GTA V Story Mode saves and GTA Online progress over to the new version. In doing so, your last gen character will be inaccessible on the older consoles. Hopefully this upgrade won’t have any of the issues that Red Dead Redemption had when Rockstar last offered a free upgrade.
