GTA 6 Price Concerns Addressed By Take-Two CEO

A highly debated topic, the price of GTA 6 at launch, has finally been addressed by someone at Rockstar/Two-Two: the CEO himself.

As reported first by IGN, Rockstar’s upcoming game is probably not going to cost $100 at the base price like many have speculated previously. This is in spite of the game’s budget breaking past $3 billion as per a report from a few weeks ago. The new pricing talk comes from Take-Two Interactive‘s CEO Strauss Zelnick who took on a question regarding the game’s cost.

On Tuesday, the CEO took to the stage to answer questions in an interview with Variety’s Jenny Maas at a new gaming event called “iicon” in Las Vegas. This business-focused event has been set up by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) who previously created and ran E3.

The CEO was questioned by Maas on just how much will Grand Theft Auto VI actually cost consumers. He did offer a response which we can read into:

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery. How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.

We look at how do we deliver something amazing, and how do we make sure that what people pay for it feels very reasonable.”

Whilst he did mention that game price increases have actually not ramped up with inflation and offer an incredible amount of value, he is still aware that they have to be cautious. A base $69.99 price followed up with a $99.99 edition with extra content or even a 3-day early access period will help boost profits whilst also keeping the base game at a standard level. It probably won’t be long before pre-orders open and the price is revealed.

There’s also some other GTA 6 and Take-Two news from the same talk given out by Zelnick. He doubled down on the “astonishing” marketing cycle beginning “soon”. How soon will that be? We have an idea. Plus, he still is saying the game is coming out on November 19th. Additionally, the CEO even hinted at a future for another one of Rockstar’s franchises.
