Twitch are actively working with Rockstar Games and Take-Two for GTA 6 collaborations. That’s according to a new interview with the Amazon-owned streaming platform’s Chief Monetization Officer Mike Minton.
Twitch has a variety of ways streamers can earn money from subscriptions, bits, Prime subscriptions to sponsorships and more and that’s what he heads up. This new interview was conducted by german site Mein-MMO.de and their article is in German. All of Minton’s answers have been machine translated.
How Twitch Revived GTA V
GTA V and GTA RP becomes a topic when Mike answers an interesting question: what is a game that Twitch has significantly increased a game’s popularity? The CMO responde with GTA V. His explanation is GTA RP “revitalized” GTA with a “new lease on life” thanks to the stories and characters created by streamers. The team also have a responsibility to share GTA RP events which they do according to Minton. GTA V was the most watched game on Twitch in 2024.

How Twitch Are Preparing For GTA 6
When asked about how Twitch will invest in streamers playing GTA 6, Twitch’s CMO said the company have a “long-term” view of the game’s life cycle. They believe the game will launch without GTA Online much like GTA V did so everyone will be playing Story Mode. This will be the first phase of Twitch’s plan.
In terms of closer collaboration with Rockstar and Take-Two, Mike Minton reveals Twitch are working with Take-Two directly. Whilst release event specifics are sparse, he does say they want to “activate” GTA VI on Twitch and make the game as big as possible at the launch of the game.
“This game will likely be the biggest game of our lives, at least as we know it, and there will be a huge hype around it.”
The Chief Monetization Officer does hint towards some types of campaigns Twitch and Take-Two are working on. Twitch have teams of people working with Rockstar Games developers right now to share findings from the years of livestreaming. It is about how can both of them work together to succeed with features such as Twitch Drops, an in-game reward for watching certain streamers.
What is the next frontier of Twitch integration to GTA? When asked if there might be official Twitch GTA RP servers, Minton could not reveal details on their plans but there have been “active discussions about how this game can become a lasting success”.
Rockstar Games and Twitch have worked together before. GTA RP Week was a big success with Rockstar donating lots of money to streamers that took part in GTA RP streams. Amazon Prime memberships also gave away in-game money for GTA Online over the course of a few years.
Rockstar’s Own GTA RP?
As for GTA Online and GTA RP, Minton is under no illusion it likely won’t come right away. It could be a month after release or longer. We just do not know. Despite the potential wait, Twitch remain excited.
The Chief Monetization Officer tells Mein-MMO that the online component will be “an even more important segment in the life cycle of this game on Twitch” as “that’s where the magic begins to happen.”
However, GTA VI is only launching on consoles to start with. No PC version has been confirmed. That would likely mean no FiveM-style client modification and no GTA RP. Twitch’s CMO hopes roleplay will be possible from the get go either through modding or from Rockstar themselves.
The PC version, based on previous Rockstar patterns, could take a year or more to release. It is a big opportunity for Rockstar to remarket GTA VI. Twitch also sees this as yet another phase in the game’s lifecycle which they can take advantage of.
